Job summary

University of Southern California is seeking a Pharmacy Technician for Keck Hospital of USC to prepare and distribute medications under pharmacist supervision. You will utilize Pyxis, Cerner, and Texium systems, manage controlled substances, and ensure accurate billing and logging in a fast-paced hospital setting.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma, completion of an accredited Pharmacy Technician program, California technician registration, and at least 1 year of pharmacy experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Graduation from an accredited Pharmacy Technician School is required.
• Pharmacy Technician (CA DCA) Registration with the California State Board of Pharmacy is required.
• 1 year of pharmacy experience is required.
• Fire Life Safety Training is required or must be obtained within 30 days of hire in LA City.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and distribute medications under supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
• Competent in ALL aspects of Pyxis automated dispensing systems and ensure proper medication barcoding.
• Maintain controlled substance inventory using the CII Pyxis system (Keck only).
• Ensure accurate and efficient preparation and dispensing of medications with pharmacist verification.
• Assist in chemotherapy preparation using Texium system.
• Generate charges (OR billing) and maintain pharmacy log sheets.
• Maintain a safe, clean pharmacy and adhere to procedures and regulations.
• Document expiration medication assignments monthly and consistently.
• Repackage/unit-dose medications using MILT4 program and maintain aseptic technique.
• Operate Cerner, PowerChart, and Pyxis systems to triage workflow.
• Monitor and restock pharmacy inventory as needed.
• Assist healthcare providers with timely phone communications and triage requests.
• Demonstrate effective time management and prioritize duties.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
