Job summary

Dayton Physicians Network in Englewood, OH, seeks a Pharmacy IV Admixture Technician to join our team. This role supports the preparation of chemotherapy and other IV mixtures, maintains clean rooms, and adheres to safety and privacy rules while supporting growth across Hematology Oncology locations.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma or GED and at least two years of IV admixture experience, strong math skills, and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of medications and IV admixtures.
  • Properly dispose of materials used when mixing IVs.

  • Check for outdated items and replace as needed.
  • Maintain a clean admixture environment per regulations and policies.
  • Follow privacy and safety rules; perform other duties as assigned.

Dayton Physicians Network is looking to add a Pharmacy IV Admixture Technician to our organization!

Schedule

Monday – Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm, 4 days a week/8 hour shifts

Work/life balance schedules

Covering other Hematology Oncology locations as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assists in the preparation of medications and supplies for distribution including: chemotherapeutic agents, non-chemotherapy IV mixtures and large – volume intravenous mixtures;
  • Properly dispose of materials used when mixing chemo and non-chemo IV’s;
  • Maintains pharmacy inventory by checking pharmaceutical stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed medications and supplies; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt; removing outdated drugs.;
  • Check for outdated items;
  • Maintain clean admixture environment per state and federal regulations and DPN policies and procedures;
  • Follow all health care privacy and safety rules and adheres to Dayton Physicians Core Values;
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Education and/ or Experience

This position requires a high school diploma or G.E.D. and a minimum of two years’ experience in compounding IV admixtures including IV chemotherapy and other hazardous drugs. In addition, this position requires knowledge of basic pharmacy practices and procedures, knowledge of medications and medical supplies, strong mathematical computation skills and great attention to detail.

Physical/ Mental Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to assist patients, reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and sit. The position requires regular lifting and/or moving up to 10 pounds and occasionally lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Environmental/ Working Conditions

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Patient care and non-patient care environments requiring frequent contact with office staff and physicians. Work may be stressful at times. The employee is exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals and personal protection is required.

Hazardous Drug Warning

Healthcare workers who prepare or administer hazardous drugs or who work in areas where these drugs are used may be exposed to these agents in air or on work surfaces, contaminated clothing, medical equipment, patient excreta, or other sources. Studies have associated workplace exposures to hazardous drugs with health effects such as skin rashes and adverse reproductive events (including infertility, spontaneous abortions or congenital malformations) and possibly leukemia and other cancers. The health risk is influenced by the extent of the exposure and the potency and toxicity of the hazardous drug. Potential health effects can be minimized though sound procedures for handling hazardous drugs, engineering controls and proper use of protective equipment to protect workers to the greatest degree possible.
