Job summary

Virginia Mason Franciscan Health is seeking a Pharmacy Technician for the Infusion Clinic. You will prepare sterile medications, including hazardous drugs, under the supervision of a Pharmacist in an infusion clinic space.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required upon hire.
  • Two years of IV room compounding experience including hazardous medications.
  • Completion of an appropriate training program.
  • Pharmacy Technician license/registration in WA upon hire.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare sterile medications and hazardous drugs under pharmacist supervision.
  • Support procurement of medications and related items for clinics.
  • Follow protocols and regulatory standards for safe preparation of meds.
  • Document inventory inspections and remove unusable drugs as needed.
  • Place orders, review costs, and coordinate backorders with leadership.

Job description

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Pharmacy Technician, Infusion Clinic, you will prepare sterile medications, including hazardous drugs, for administration in an infusion clinic space under the supervision of a Pharmacist.

Every day you will support the procurement of medications, bio-technology products, and related pharmacy items to meet the supported clinics' needs, performing all work in accordance with protocols, internal guidelines and standards, and Board of Pharmacy regulatory requirements.

To be successful in your role, you will need strong attention to detail and precision, along with the ability to follow strict protocols and regulatory standards to ensure the safe, accurate preparation of medications.

  • Performs duties in documented accordance with requirements of all regulatory and governing bodies. Mandatory education from a system and department level is completed.
  • Performs all necessary pharmaceutical calculations and prepares sterile parenteral medications, including hazardous drugs, for administration upon authorized provider order.
  • Provides information for medications prepared and administered to any billing staff as required by CMS and commercial payers.
  • Performs and documents inspections of the medication and supplies inventories to ensure that expired or otherwise unusable drugs are removed and replaced when appropriate.
  • Places pharmaceutical orders for any assigned locations. Reviews each order for optimized cost savings. Participates in adhering to the CSH formulary for associated locations. Coordinates ordering of backorders items and assures allocated amounts are received. Consults with pharmacy leaders for cost-effective alternatives during drug shortages when needed. Comply with contracts when placing orders for drug products. Coordinates returns of unused medications as allowed by policy.
  • Ensure clinic compliance with all requirements of the Drug Supply Chain Security Act as well as related CommonSpirit Health and any associated entities policies and procedures. Retrieve and maintain transactional data from vendors and drop shipped items that are shipped to clinics.
