Job summary

Novant Health seeks a Pharmacy Technician II-Certified (Medication Listing Assistant) to join our hospital pharmacy float pool. This After Hours role supports medication histories for Charlotte Region facilities, including Matthews Medical Center, on a 7 on/7 off 8:30pm-7:00am schedule.

You will help ensure accurate drug histories across care settings. The role requires PTCB/NHA and ongoing certification, with opportunities for career growth and tuition support.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; 2-year/Associate degree preferred.
  • Minimum two pharmacy skills or experience as Pharmacy Technician 1 Certified.
  • One year of sterile compounding experience in oncology or IV/chemotherapy preferred for some roles.
  • State registration and/or renewal required; PTCB/NHA certification preferred within timelines.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain accurate and complete medication histories for newly admitted patients.
  • Collect and document details on prescription medications, OTC meds, herbs, and vitamins.
  • Verify medication information by contacting pharmacies, physicians, and other providers.
  • Enter and update home medication list (PMA) into the EHR promptly.
  • Identify discrepancies or potential interactions for pharmacist review.
  • Communicate medication-related issues clearly to pharmacists, physicians, nurses, and the team.

Novant Health is seeking a Pharmacy Tech II-Certified (Medication Listing Assistant), to join our hospital pharmacy float pool team, to deliver optimal medication management across all dimensions of care, every time. This position will provide after-hours medication history support for our Charlotte Region facilities including Ballantyne Medical Center, Huntersville Medical Center, Mint Hill Medical Center, Matthews Medical Center, and Rowan Medical Center.

What You'll Do
  • Obtain accurate and complete medication histories for newly admitted patients by conducting structured interviews with patients, caregivers, and family members
  • Collect and document details on prescription medications, over-the-counter medications, herbal supplements, and vitamins
  • Verify medication information by contacting outpatient pharmacies, physician offices, long-term care facilities, and other healthcare providers
  • Accurately enter and update the patient’s home medication list (prior-to-admission medications) into the electronic health record (EHR) in a timely manner
  • Identify and document potential discrepancies, duplications, omissions, or drug interactions for pharmacist review
  • Communicate medication-related issues clearly to pharmacists, physicians, nurses, and other members of the healthcare team
What We're Looking For
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED, required. 2 Year / Associate Degree, preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Acute: Minimum of two pharmacy skills (examples may include medication distribution, sterile compounding, and/or medication listing activities) required. OR...hired as a Pharmacy Technician 1 Certified and now competently performing a second pharmacy skill as described above, required.
    • Outpatient Oncology: Minimum of two years of experience in any setting with one year of experience in sterile compounding (of IV and/or chemotherapy admixture), required.
    • Specialty Pharmacy: Minimum of two years in any setting required with one year in specialty setting preferred, required.
  • Licensure/Certification:
    • Current registry with applicable State Board(s) of pharmacy, required.
    • PTCB or NHA Certification within 60 days of hire, or proof of enrollment in pharmacy school/FPEGG/FPGEC, required.
    • A minimum of one relevant specialized certificate/certification from approved vendor such as PTCB, BPTS or NPTA (examples include but are not limited to product verification, medication history, hazardous drug management, billing/reimbursement, controlled substances diversion prevention, medication therapy management, sterile compounding). This must be obtained within 12 months of hire and maintained as applicable, required.
  • Additional skills required:
    • State Registration and/or evidence of renewal is required for both Pharmacists and Technicians fifteen days prior to expiration and Technicians are required to be either certified through Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or National Healthcareer Association (NHA), or be actively enrolled in pharmacy school, or be active in Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Equivalency Examination (FPGEE) or Foreign Pharmacy Equivalency Certification (FPGEC).
    • Considerable knowledge and application of basic math skills, including ratio and proportion relationships; strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Basic technology skills. Other duties as outlined in Novant Health and facility specific policies and procedures. Ability to drive/travel to multiple facilities/locations as needed. Ability to work as part of a high performing, change ready and resilient team.
  • Additional skills preferred:Considerable knowledge of medication names (both trade and generic) and their doses, routes of administration, and adverse effects; the ability to demonstrate patient interview skills and strong written and verbal communication skills with other healthcare professionals. Experience with inventory management.
