Job summary

Olathe Health is seeking a Pharmacy Technician II for the Acute Care Community, CAH, and Behavioral Health units. This mid-shift role supports accurate medication filling, recordkeeping, and timely delivery under pharmacist supervision.

Evening hours run 12:00pm–8:30pm at Olathe Hospital. The position requires high school completion, 2+ years as a pharmacy tech or 18 months at KU Health System, and active tech registration with CE obligations.

Qualifications

  • High School Graduate or GED.
  • 2+ years experience as a pharmacy technician in a comparable setting or 18 months at The University of Kansas Health System.
  • Pharmacy Technician Registration with State Board; maintain certification (CPhT) and ongoing CE.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares medications for dispensing with accuracy and efficiency, including complex sterile compounds.
  • Pulls and stocks ADS machines; monitors quantities and par levels.
  • Manage inventory; may order NDCs based on Epic medication list and ADS setup.
  • Operate pharmacy computer systems and troubleshoot issues; contribute to training materials.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and quality standards; escalate gaps as needed.
  • Communicate with patients and staff to resolve routine service concerns; escalate clinical questions to pharmacists.
  • Identify and report potential medication errors; support safe medication practices.

Position Summary / Career Interest

Pharmacy Technician II - Acute Care Community, CAH, Behavioral Health is an intermediate level position. The Pharmacy Technician II role builds upon skills and competencies outlined in Pharmacy Technician I to ensure accurate medication filling and record keeping at the Acute Care Community, CAH, and Behavioral Health as well as timely delivery of medications. All work will be completed under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist.


Note: This is a full time mid-shift position, schedule is 12:00pm - 8:30pm


Responsibilities And Essential Job Functions


  • Prepares medications for dispensing: Has above average efficiency while maintaining accuracy during preparation of sterile or non-sterile compounds. Uses knowledge and expertise to navigate the preparation of complex sterile compounds.

  • Distributes medications and stock items: Pulls and stocks ADS machines with high accuracy and timeliness and above average efficiency. Monitors quantities on hand and par levels; escalates appropriately to support medication availability.

  • Maintains Pharmacy Inventory: Escalates unusual use patterns appropriately. Monitors quantity on hand versus par levels and escalates appropriately. May order appropriate NDCs based on Epic medication list and ADS configuration.

  • Operates pharmacy computer systems: Independently takes initiative to resolve / troubleshoot issues related to pharmacy computer systems. Contributes towards documents or files for internal communications, training/job aids, or other department needs.

  • Compliance and recordkeeping: Identifies gaps in compliance and adherence to applicable regulatory and quality standards and escalates appropriately.

  • Patient Care: Communicates effectively with patients, caregivers and staff to resolve routine service concerns. Provides accurate information about pharmacy processes while escalating clinical inquiries to a pharmacist. Conducts patient care activities with enhanced proficiency while maintaining accuracy and professionalism.

  • Medication Safety: Recognizes potential medication errors and reports and escalates appropriately.

  • Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education And Experience


  • High School Graduate or GED.

  • 2 or more years experience as a pharmacy technician in a comparable setting OR

  • At least 18 months experience in a pharmacy technician role at The University of Kansas Health system


Required Licensure And Certification


  • Pharmacy Technician Registration - State Board of Pharmacy Kansas and/or Missouri - per work state upon Hire

  • Technician must maintain certification on an ongoing basis and complete all continuing education requirements.

  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) - Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) OR equivalent National Pharmacy Technician Certification.


Preferred Licensure And Certification


  • Certified Compounded Sterile Preparation Technician (CSPT) - Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)

  • Advanced Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT-Adv) - Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)
