Job summary

HCA Florida Lake City Hospital is seeking a Pharmacy Technician II to perform advanced and basic pharmacy technician functions in a fast-paced hospital setting. The role includes duties with Automated Dispensing Cabinets (ADCs) under the supervision of the pharmacy management team, and collaboration with hospital staff.

The ideal candidate will have a Pharmacy Technician License or CPhT certification, be proficient with parenteral compounding, and demonstrate strong attention to regulatory

Responsibilities

• Identify critical issues, prioritize workload and communicate issues in a timely manner.
• Maintain required documentation logs.
• Assist pharmacists in clinical reviews and medication reconciliation tasks.
• Compound parenteral medications following aseptic technique and USP 797 guidelines.
• Operate and troubleshoot Automated Dispensing Cabinets (ADCs).
• Replenish ADCs, emergency carts, and floor stock as needed.
• Process medication returns and restock to the pharmacy.
• Perform daily ADC routines and required audits.
• Complete administrative billing functions and daily workload reports.

Job Summary and Qualifications

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Pharmacy Technician II is responsible for accurately performing all advanced and basic pharmacy technician functions in a timely manner. In addition, they may be responsible for performing duties associated with Automated Dispensing Cabinets (ADCs) and other specialized duties as assigned by the pharmacy management team.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• 1. Identifies critical issues, prioritize workload and communicate to appropriate personnel any issues in a timely manner
• 2. Completes all education requirements and/or other activities needed to maintain competency
• 3. Interacts in person and by phone with hospital personnel politely and appropriately.
• 4. Accurately maintains required documentation logs
• 5. Complies with facility policy and procedures and regulatory requirements
• 6. Responsible for maintaining medication storage and security as per regulatory requirements throughout the organization
• 7. Accurately performs audits (i.e. anesthesia, overrides, billing, etc.) as assigned
• 8. Performs quality control and performance improvement functions as assigned
• 9. Accurately performs and documents monthly medication storage area inspections as assigned
• 10. Performs administrative billing functions
• 11. Assists the pharmacists in clinical reviews as assigned (i.e. medication reconciliation, triaging reports, etc).
• 12. Accurately performs required calculations
• 13. Accurately and safely compounds and label medications and parenteral admixtures
• 14. Always utilizes aseptic techniques in the preparation of parenteral compounding
• 15. Compliant with all USP 797 daily/monthly requirements (i.e. Cleaning laminar airflow cabinets and biological safety cabinets, wearing personal protective equipment, etc.)
• 16. Always obtains a final check from the pharmacist before releasing any prepared parenteral compounds, before packaging any medication, or dispensing any medication
• 17. Prepares all work records needed for day at their designated times including the Discontinued, Transfers, and Discharges Lists of parenteral preparations and efficiently processes these reports before they are dispensed to the patient care areas
• 18. Compounds chemotherapy preparation per established protocol
• 19. Accurately transports medications and other pharmacy supplies in a timely manner to appropriate areas Accurately fills orders in the pharmacy
• 20. Process medication returns and restocking to the pharmacy
• 21. Proficient in automated dispensing systems
• 22. Performing daily ADC routines as assigned (i.e. restocks, outdates, discrepancy resolution, loading and unloading, etc.)
• 23. Troubleshoots ADC issues. (i.e. orders not coming across, drawer failures, medication jams, communication failures, etc.)
• 24. Able to reconfigure Automated Dispensing Cabinets (ADC).
• 25. Able to perform ADC build and set up functions
• 26. Under direction will perform ADC expiration Audits
• 27. Narcotic Discrepancy Audits - Investigates Discrepancies to determine if true discrepancy and completes Audit sheets and/or incidence reports as appropriate.
• 28. Replenishes ADCs, emergency cart trays and floor stock accurately and as needed
• 29. Monitor ADT activities and communicate any problems to appropriate individu
