Baptist Health Brookwood Hospital in Homewood, AL is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to support distribution and operational tasks using Baptist Health systems. You will assist the Pharmacist with medication distribution, maintain USP 797 standards, and help with drug procurement within department policies.

This role emphasizes safety, customer service, and regulatory compliance, with opportunities for training and ongoing education in a collaborative hospital environment.

Qualifications

• Equivalent of experience as a pharmacy technician.
• Maintains current Pharmacy Technician registration with the Alabama State Board of Pharmacy.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates an understanding of safety, emergency, and risk management procedures.
• Demonstrates familiarity with the Pharmacy department duties and processes.
• Operates equipment required for pharmacy procedures per instructions and policies.
• Accurately assists the Pharmacist in medication distribution and aseptic techniques.
• Maintains USP 797 standards and regulatory documentation.
• Participates in training of new pharmacy technicians as needed.
• Maintains compliance with all hospital policies and procedures.
• Completes mandatory education and professional development.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates an understanding of safety, emergency, and risk management procedures
• Demonstrates an understanding of the hospital mission, personnel policies, philosophy, goals, customer service, and objectives of the Pharmacy and Orlando Health
• Demonstrates familiarity with the general duties and processes of the Pharmacy department
• Demonstrates the ability to Identify and utilize resources and departments for customer service and patient care, based upon need, availability, and responsibility of resources
• Demonstrates the ability to operate the equipment required for pharmacy procedures, consistent with operating instructions, safety regulations, and policy and procedures
• Performs the basic Pharmacy Technician procedures required by the assigned area consistent with scientific principles, policy, and procedures
• Performs the basic buyer procedures including drug procurement required by the department and consistent with departmental principles and Orlando Health policies and procedures
• Accurately assists the Pharmacist in all duties pertaining to the medication distribution including proper aseptic techniques for admixture of various types of medication (e.g. chemotherapy) and functionally performing tasks / procedures associated with automated dispensing cabinets
• Maintains USP 797 standards and other regulatory required documentation
• Maintains safe handling and proper disposal requirements
• Responsible for special project completion as assigned
• Participates in the training of new pharmacy technicians if needed
• Maintains advanced expertise in and actively covers technician services in a specialized practice area (eg. medication history acquisition) depending on the needs of the department
• Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards
• Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures
• Attends in-services/meetings as required
• Assumes responsibility for professional development and continuing education
• Completes all Orlando Health mandatory education
