Job summary

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle is seeking a Pharmacy Technician I to join our South Lake Union campus. This 1.0 FTE role operates Monday through Friday with occasional holiday shifts, supporting pharmacists and clinical staff.

Responsibilities include preparing, labeling medications, triaging calls, and maintaining electronic medical records, while upholding safety rules and state regulations. Pre-employment drug screening is required and compensation reflects experience.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Current Washington state pharmacy technician license required.
  • Ability to perform pharmaceutical calculations.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills.
  • Familiar with generic drug names and indications.
  • Ability to use pharmacy computer systems and order entry accurately and efficiently.
  • Pre-employment drug screening required.

Responsibilities

  • Process online prescription orders including billing.
  • Triage medication-related phone calls and electronic messages.
  • Interact courteously with professional and technical staff.
  • Clean and restock pharmacy areas.

  • Refer clinical inquiries to a pharmacist and assist in training technicians.

Working under the immediate supervision of a pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician I role interacts with patients and health care providers to perform a variety of technical pharmaceutical tasks including triaging medication-related communications and maintaining the electronic medical record.

This is a 1.0 FTE (40 Hours) role that will work out of our South Lake Union Campus. This role will primarily be Monday thru Friday but will include periodic Holiday shifts dependent on clinical need.

Responsibilities
  • Prepares, packages and labels medication in an accurate and efficient manner.
  • Online processing of prescription orders including billing appropriately and accurately
  • Triage incoming phone calls and electronic messages relating to medications.
  • Interact with professional and technical staff in a courteous manner.
  • Cleaning and restocking pharmacy areas.
  • Follows inventory control processes performing cycle counts and checking outdates.
  • Accurately operates CII safe and follows all controlled substance procedures.
  • Direct clinical inquiries requiring a pharmacist's professional judgment to a pharmacist.
  • Answer inquiries not requiring a pharmacist's professional judgment.
  • Assist in the training of pharmacy technicians, apprentices, and interns.
  • Other pharmacy related duties in accordance with regulations under Washington State Pharmacy Quality Assurance Commission
  • Know and follow all Pharmacy Department and Fred Hutch policies and procedures, as well as all applicable state and federal laws.
Qualifications

Required:

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Current Washington state pharmacy technician license
  • Ability to perform pharmaceutical calculations
  • Ability to communicate verbally in person, on the phone, and in writing in a clear, concise and professional manner
  • Familiar with the generic names of drugs along with their basic indication
  • Ability to use pharmacy computer systems and order entry in an accurate and efficient manner

Preferred:

  • Certified as a Washington State Pharmacy Technician from an accredited technical institute
  • Experience in a retail pharmacy
  • Oncology knowledge
  • Experience with electronic medical records

Pre Employment Drug Screening:

As a condition of employment Fred Hutch conducts pre-employment drug testing for this pharmacy role. All offers of employment in the pharmacy department are conditional on the applicant successfully completing and passing a drug test in accordance with the Fred Hutch policy.

The hourly pay range for this position is from $31.26 t0 $44.51 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.

This is a 1.0 FTE (40 Hours) role that will work out of our South Lake Union Campus. This role will primarily be Monday thru Friday but will include periodic Holiday shifts dependent on clinical need. Although Fred Hutch is not sponsoring most H-1B visas at this time, candidates who already hold an H-1B sponsored by another organization and are currently in the U.S. may be eligible for this position.
