Job summary

Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center – Pharmacy (Winston Campus) is seeking a Pharmacy Technician – Home Infusion (Part-time, PRN) to support licensed pharmacists in preparation and distribution of medications.

The role includes sterile and non-sterile compounding where applicable, patient data entry, insurance verification, and assisting with inventory across home-infusion sites. Schedule is flexible with a 6:00 AM–2:30 PM window, Mon–Fri; 1 hour per week as PRN.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or GED required; licensure/registration as required by state.
• No prior work experience required.
• Must obtain CPhT or ExCPT certification within 18 months of start date.

Responsibilities

• Assist licensed pharmacists with preparation and distribution of medications.
• Select, prepare, and label medications including hazardous drugs and controlled substances.
• Assist with medication distribution tasks and IV admixture where applicable.
• Screen calls and route using proper etiquette; perform inventory control and procurement.
• Enter patient demographics and insurance data; support third-party billing.

Position: Pharmacy Technician – Home Infusion (Part‑time, PRN)

Department: Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center – Pharmacy (Winston Campus)

Position Highlights

• Part‑time, PRN (6:00AM–2:30PM, Mon‑Fri)
• Flexible schedule with placements across home‑infusion sites
• Hours per week: 1 (PRN)
• Pay Range: $21.85–$32.80 per hour

Responsibilities

• Assist licensed pharmacists in technical duties related to preparation and distribution of medications.
• Select, prepare, and label medications accurately, including hazardous drugs and controlled substances.
• Assist with medication distribution tasks.
• Screen phone calls and route as needed using proper telephone and voicemail etiquette.
• Assist in daily pharmacy procurement, inventory control, and out‑date checking.
• Complete documentation required for removing, stocking, and wasting controlled substances, where applicable.
• Perform non‑sterile compounding following USP standards, where applicable.
• Perform sterile IV admixture using aseptic technique, where applicable.
• Inspect assigned medication storage areas for adherence to storage policies.
• Complete and document medication admission histories, as applicable.
• Seek additional duties when required work is done and accept other duties as assigned.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives to assure the excellence of departmental services.
• Assist in training pharmacy technicians and extenders in orientation to policies, procedures, and workflows, as applicable.
• Abide by all organization policies and procedures and comply with all legal, regulatory, and accreditation standards.
• Support area leaders regarding goals and work assignments.
• Obtain and record initial patient demographic and required information; enter data into the pharmacy system for record keeping, insurance verification and label generation, and cashiering.
• Develop competence in third‑party billing functions.
• Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
• May obtain immunization certification and perform immunizations under pharmacist supervision, where applicable.
• Operate an Advocate Health‑owned motor vehicle to deliver medications and supplies as required.

Minimum Job Requirements

• Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Certification/Registration/License: Registration or licensure with state board of pharmacy as required by state. Must receive Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (CPhT) or National Healthcareer Association (ExCPT) certification within 18months of start date, or sooner if required by state.
• Experience: No work experience required.
• Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Excellent verbal and written communication; proven ability to work effectively with multiple departments; strong ability to influence and develop others; strong organizational skills; effective critical thinking, creativity, problem solving, and decision‑making skills; expert knowledge of revenue cycle metrics; ability to lead a diverse group of teams.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

• Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, bend, kneel, climb, twist, crawl, and reach above shoulders.
• Require considerable walking, standing, and pushing a mobile cart of approximately 50pounds and lifting 35pounds of material.
• Must have functional vision, touch, and hearing; able to speak and be understood.
• May be exposed to chemical and hazardous waste, blood, body fluids, and communicable disease; appropriate PPE is used.
• Frequent fine‑motor motions of hands and wrists for writing, typing, data entry, and medication preparation (including syringes).
• Takes precautions to avoid needle sticks, cuts, and bruises.
• Exposed to walking on hard surfaces, climbing stairs, and temperature/humidity changes.
• Operates all equipment necessary for the job.
• Flexibility to travel between pharmacy locations.
