Number of Positions in Requisition1Job DetailsEvery week the individual will work either one of the following shifts M-F:530a-2p, 6a-230p, 7a-330p, 730a-4p, 1p-930p or 130p-10p.They will also be required to work every third weekend on a similar shift as listed above and two holidays a yearReporting to the Pharmacy Manager and the direct supervision by staff pharmacists, the Pharmacy Technician assists in the preparation and filling of all medications necessary for inpatient and outpatient services. Support all department initiatives and daily workflow by ensuring that the proper medication and tools are available for the clinical team and patients.Job DescriptionJob DutiesInteracts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.Prepares drug orders from Physicians for review and dispensing by a Registered Pharmacist.Replenishes all Pyxis machines. Monitors and record refrigerator temperatures when filling, and documents corrective action taken if needed. Informs Pharmacy Manager of any ongoing issues.Counts, compounds and repackages pharmaceuticals using established procedures.Medication dispensing and distribution to patient areas, Reorder and Restock of pharmacy inventory, Restock inventory in department an nursing unit and restocks returns, Evaluates stock for expired medications, Performs necessary monitoring and documentation.Performs various billing/ crediting functions to ensure proper billing of all medications dispensed to patients to comply with hospital finance policies. Ensures proper documentation of waste.Picks up Physician orders from team centers on a regular basis, and additionally as required by the Pharmacist.Performs light housekeeping duties such as arranging bins and stock neatly, removing items from bulk storage, dusting shelves, removing open boxes, keeping work areas neat and clean.Replenishes specialty and code carts. All restocking of carts is documented through the use of a sign out sheet, noting time, date, and items replaced.Uses aseptic techniques to prepare IVs and record IV refrigeration daily. Transports IVs to the nursing floor.Maintains competencies related to IV lab, Pyxis, McKesson Automation and CAPS.Reviews and completes assigned inspections every other month and maintains all competencies required by the department and the hospital to ensure all jobs performed are done properly. All new hires must achieve this certification within 12 months of hire, or provide evidence of successful completion of a formal pharmacy technician training program. Technicians who are actively enrolled in an accredited school of pharmacy are exempt from this requirement.Physical DemandsLift and carry 40-50 lbs. Examples: Push/pull patients on bed, stretcher (requires 29 lbs. push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of the patient's weight. Frequent to continuous standing/walking.
