Rochester Regional Health is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to support the Inpatient Pharmacy at Rochester General Hospital. The role emphasizes organization, attention to detail, and accurate preparation and delivery of medications in a fast-paced hospital setting.

Preferred candidates will have a HS diploma, 1 year healthcare experience, and National Pharmacy Certification within 18 months of hire. Training is offered; hours include Day/Evening and weekend rotations.

  • Maintenance & Sterilization: Clean repackaging equipment; perform non-sterile compounding and prepare oral liquids, creams, and ointments; proper disposal of meds.

Job Title: Pharmacy Technician Location: Rochester General Hospital Department: Inpatient Pharmacy Hours Per Week: Full-Time Schedule: Day/Evening & Weekend Rotations

SUMMARY As a Pharmacy Tech, your excellent organizational skills and attention to detail make you a crucial resource within the unit and ensure quality patient care.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Medication Preparation & Delivery. Process and prepare medication orders by repackaging bulk medication into individual-size packages; round to floors in an accurate and timely manner to deliver medication; add measured drugs or nutrients to intravenous solutions under sterile conditions Documentation & Reporting. Ensure concise, pertinent, and complete patient care documentation using the EMR system (Electronic Medical Record); use the pharmacy information system to run reports and access medication data; receive and store incoming supplies and verify quantities Maintenance & Sterilization. Clean and maintain the repackaging machine after use; perform non-sterile compounding and prepare oral liquids, creams, and ointments in a clean environment; measure and combine medication accurately with proper documentation; ensure proper disposal of medication

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: None - willing to train.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma or equivalent preferred Excellent oral and written communication skills for routine interaction with hospital staff, patients, and visitors. 1 year of work experience in a clinical, retail, or healthcare setting. If hired before November 1, 2020, initial National Pharmacy Certification exam must be taken by November 1, 2021.

Required Licensure/Certification: National Pharmacy Certification required within 18 months of hire.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Moderate - Clinical - Moderate clinical roles are patient facing roles that require continual movement, including standing, walking, and lifting 20-50 lbs., along with pushing and pulling medical equipment and assisting with patient positioning. Employees perform frequent bending, twisting, and reaching while completing fine motor tasks in busy or confined clinical environments. High sensory acuity is essential for monitoring patient status and responding to alarms or safety concerns. Emotional and cognitive demands are substantial, involving decision-making under pressure, responding to emergencies, and maintaining sustained focus. Environmental exposures include infectious agents, bodily fluids, chemicals, and radiation. TB testing, mask-fit testing, and physical exams are common requirements. For disease specific care programs refer to the program specific requirements of the department for further specifications on experience and educational expectations, including continuing education requirements. Any physical requirements reported by a prospective employee and/or employee’s physician or delegate will be considered for accommodations.

PAY RANGE: $18.50 - $20.50 CITY: Rochester POSTAL CODE: 14621 The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
