Job summary

SUNY Upstate Medical University Hospital in Syracuse is seeking Pharmacy Technicians to support our care team, ensuring timely medication supply and patient safety. The role involves preparing, storing, and dispensing meds, maintaining inventory, and assisting pharmacists in IV admixtures and QA tasks.

Candidates must hold NYS pharmacy technician license and national certification or an equivalent training path, with timelines for certification.

Qualifications

• Requires NYS Pharmacy Technician license and National Certification or equivalent training.
• Alternative qualifications include 6–12 months of technician experience with certification considerations.
• Associates Degree (or higher) acceptable per requirements.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, store and maintain medication inventory; fill patient orders.
• Monitor automated dispensing cabinets; ensure timely/accurate refills.
• Complete medication histories accurately and efficiently.
• Prepare IV admixtures under pharmacist supervision.
• Assist pharmacist with monitoring and quality assurance reports.
• Collaborate with healthcare team to maintain inventory and prevent shortages.

We are adding to our Pharmacy Technician team to ensure that our patients receive the care they need around the clock. Can you help us? Here’s what you’ll do:

Responsibilities

• Prepare, store and maintain medication inventory and use that inventory to fill patient specific orders.
• Monitor and manage automated dispensing cabinets, ensuring timely and accurate refill of medications.
• Accurately and efficiently completes medication histories.
• Prepares IV admixtures, hazardous and non-hazardous, under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
• Assist the Pharmacist with monitoring and quality assurance reports.
• Collaborate with healthcare team to maintain accurate inventory and prevent shortages.

• These roles will require you to be on your feet extensively as well as some occasional lifting of up to 30lbs.

How can you become a PHARMACY TECHNICIAN at SUNY Upstate? It’s easy! Candidates must fulfill one of the following to meet minimum qualifications:

Qualifications

• NYS pharmacy technician license and National Pharmacy Technician Certification OR
• National Pharmacy Technician Certification plus 6 months of pharmacy technician experience OR
• 1 year of pharmacy technician experience OR
• Successful completion of a military or other accredited pharmacy technician training program OR
• NYS licensed/registered LPN OR
• Associates Degree (or higher level degree)

*Candidates who do not have their National Pharmacy Technician Certification and/or NYS Pharmacy technician license will be required to receive the National Pharmacy Technician Certification within 18 months of hire and NYS pharmacy technician license within 6 months of national certification and will be placed on a temporary appointment until both are received.
