Job summary

Qualifications

• 1-2 years hospital pharmacy technician experience preferred, IV experience preferred.
• HS/GED with approved technician training program, or advanced degree/foreign pharmacy degree, or relevant experience.
• NY State registration required

Responsibilities

• Fills medication orders accurately.
• Retrieves and delivers medication promptly.
• Maintains adequate stock levels and avoids over-stock.
• Prepares/ checks Urgent Use Stock orders accurately and avoids over-stock.
• Reviews areas for expired drugs and discards as needed.
• Maintains refrigerator temperature logs in pharmacy and nursing units as assigned.
• Determines IV antibiotic needs at the start of each shift for satellite units.
• Prepares Laminar Flow Hood for usage.
• Operates the Baxa pump and handles reconstitution of antibiotic piggyback bottles aseptically.
• Defrosts frozen antibiotic IV mini-bags and prepares concentrates as needed.
• Rotates antibiotic products to max expiry and disposes of expired items.
• Fills satellite orders not in centralized IV program.
• Keeps the area neat and hygienic; disposes of IV needles and tubing properly.
• Maintains all required records and provides general help to the pharmacist.
• Maintains inventory of IV supplies and pre-manufactured IVs with patient labels for pharmacist check.
• Delivers patient IVs to nursing units.
• Performs related duties as required.

Responsibilities

• Fills medication orders accurately.
• Retrieves and delivers medication in a timely fashion.
• Maintains adequate stock levels in the pharmacy and does not over-stock.
• Prepares/ checks Urgent Use Stock orders for patient care areas accurately and does not over-stock.
• Reviews medication areas for expired drugs in a timely fashion.
• Maintains medication refrigerator temperature logs in pharmacy areas and nursing units (as assigned).
• Determines the intravenous antibiotic needs of each of the satellite units at the beginning of the shift.
• Prepares Laminar Flow Hood for usage.
• Operates the Baxa pump.
• Reconstitutes antibiotic piggyback bottles with the proper diluents using aseptic technique.
• Defrosts frozen antibiotic intravenous mini-bags.
• Prepares antibiotic concentrate and aseptically adds to diluents mini-bags.
• Rotates all antibiotic products to maintain the maximum expiration and properly disposes of all expired products.
• Fills orders for satellites not involved with centralized IV program.
• Maintains the area in a neat and hygienic manner.
• Properly disposes of all intravenous needles and tubing and equipment.
• Assists in maintaining all required records.
• Provides general assistance to the pharmacist.
• Maintains inventory of all needed intravenous supplies.
• Prepares all pre-manufactured I.V.s with patient label to be checked by pharmacist.
• Delivery of patient IVs to nursing units.
• Performs all related duties as required.

Qualifications

• HS/GED; Graduate of an approved pharmacy technician training program, OR an advanced degree, i.e. a Pharmacy Degree from another country OR relevant experience.
• 1-2 years relevant experience as a hospital pharmacy technician preferred: IV experience preferred
• Pharmacy Tech Certification and NYS registration required

The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $39.25 - $39.25 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need.
