Cleveland Clinic Akron General is seeking a Pharmacy Technician Apprentice - Inpatient to join our team in Akron, OH. You will train under a pharmacist to learn packaging, preparing, and distributing medications, while managing pharmacy records and inventory.

Upon successful completion of 12 months, you will earn a diploma in Pharmacy Technology from the Cleveland Clinic School of Pharmacy Technology Program and be on track for CPhT certification with Ohio Board of Pharmacy within 12 months.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED is required or equivalent.
  • Completion of the Cleveland Clinic School of Pharmacy Technology program within 12 months of hire.
  • Registration as a Pharmacy Technician Trainee with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy at hire; CPhT within 12 months.
  • Must obtain CPhT certification through PTCB within 12 months.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare medications including labeling, repackaging, non-sterile and sterile compounding.
  • Deliver medications to appropriate storage locations.
  • Maintain accurate inventories of medications and supplies.
  • Maintain a safe, clean work area by following procedures and regulations.
  • Document temperature logs, scheduled activities, and training accurately and timely.
  • Attend and actively participate in team huddles and meetings.
  • Use information systems, technology and automation to complete tasks.
  • Maintain good standing in the Cleveland Clinic School of Pharmacy Technology Program per the handbook.

Under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, you will function as a trainee and gain knowledge in packaging, preparing and distributing medications, inventory control, customer service and maintaining pharmacy records. After 12 months, you will have successfully completed and received a diploma in Pharmacy Technology from the Cleveland Clinic School of Pharmacy Technology Program.

A caregiver in this position works a 18-week program from 7:00am to 3:30pm, Monday through Friday. No weekends or holidays required.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Prepare medications (selection, labeling, repackaging, non-sterile compounding and sterile compounding).
  • Deliver medications to appropriate storage locations.
  • Maintain accurate and appropriate inventories of medications and supplies.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work area by complying with procedures, rules and regulations.
  • Document regulatory requirements such as temperature logs, scheduled activities, and training in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Attend and actively participate in team huddles and meetings.
  • Use information systems, technology and automation to complete assigned tasks.
  • Maintain good standing in the Cleveland Clinic School of Pharmacy Technology Program per the student handbook.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Successful completion of the Cleveland Clinic School of Pharmacy Technology program within 12 months of hire
  • Upon hire, registration as a Pharmacy Technician Trainee with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy. Registration as a Certified Pharmacy Technician with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy is required within 12 months
  • Must obtain Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) within 12 months
Physical Requirements:
  • Typical physical demands include ability to perform the job while standing, walking, reaching, stretching and sitting for prolonged periods; manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer, dispensing, and compounding.
Personal Protective Equipment:
  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
