Overview
Pharmacy Technician I – Specialty Pharmacy – Dispensing
Responsibilities
- Under the direction of a pharmacist and in coordination with other technicians, package, prepare, and distribute medications; manage inventory; provide customer service and maintain pharmacy records.
- Participate in continual training opportunities provided by the department to develop ongoing skills in other areas of the pharmacy.
- Ensure compliance with all rules and regulations of the hospital and pharmacy department.
- If registered as a pharmacy technician trainee with the OH Board of Pharmacy, complete the OSU Wexner Medical Center employer-based training program.
- Fill and process prescriptions within the specialty pharmacy, including selecting, filling, and labeling correct drug products according to prescriptions.
- Serve patients at the drive-up window and prepare prescriptions for shipment (creating shipping labels and placing products in correct packaging).
- Perform basic inventory tasks, handle pharmacy phone calls to and from patients, and stock supplies.
- Maintain current PTCB or NHA certification and OH Board of Pharmacy Certified Registered Technician status throughout employment.
Qualifications
- High School graduate or equivalent
- Certified Pharmacy Technician
- 0 years of relevant experience required
- 0-2 years of relevant experience preferred
Additional requirements
- Position requires at least 1 year of experience as a pharmacy technician in a retail or specialty setting (national certification preferred and required after 9 months of employment).
- Must complete PTCB or NHA certification within 9 months of hire and update OH Board of Pharmacy registration to Certified Registered upon meeting requirements.
- Maintain current PTCB or NHA certification and OH Board of Pharmacy Certified Registered Technician status during employment.
