Job description

Responsibilities

• Assist the pharmacist under direct supervision in the practice of pharmacy in accordance with state and federal regulations and Company policies and procedures.
• Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions. For PTCB or ExCPT certified individuals, coach pharmacy technicians in the operation of pharmacy systems and cash registers.
• Model and deliver a distinctive and delightful customer experience.

Customer Experience

• Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services, resolving customer issues, and answering questions to ensure a positive experience.
• Model and share customer service best practices with all team members, including interpersonal habits and Walgreens service traits such as proactive help, need identification, and sustained satisfaction.
• Develop strong relationships with most valuable customers.

Operations

• Assist in the practice of pharmacy under the supervision of the pharmacist, reviewing and complying with the Walgreen Co. Pharmacy Code of Conduct.
• Perform duties assigned by Pharmacy Manager, Staff Pharmacist, and Store Manager, including entering patient and drug information, filling prescriptions, verifying medication, and checking for interactions.
• Report prescription errors promptly to the pharmacist on duty and adhere to Company policies in relation to pharmacy errors and the Quality Improvement Program.
• Adhere strictly to the Walgreen Co. policy regarding Good Faith Dispensing during all applicable prescription dispensing activities.
• Register all related sales on the assigned cash register, handle cash, and take customers to the OTC aisle when possible to assist in locating products.
• Handle telephone calls that do not require the pharmacist’s personal attention, including those to physicians.
• Process, correct, and resubmit manual claims for third‑party prescription services efficiently, and perform other clerical duties as assigned by the Pharmacy Manager.
• Assist the Pharmacy Department with inventory management activities such as ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing pharmaceutical shipments, and file claims for warehouse overages, shortages, or damaged goods involving prescription drugs.
• Assist pharmacist in administering clinical services, including collecting and labeling blood or urine samples and coordinating services with Walgreens healthcare clinics and external providers.
• Assist Pharmacy Manager and Staff Pharmacist in developing and maintaining good relationships with the local medical community, including medical provider detailing and outreach to health groups.
• Assist with exterior and interior maintenance to ensure the Pharmacy Department is stocked, clean, neat, and orderly.
• Comply with all company policies and procedures and maintain respectful relationships with coworkers.
• Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned.

Training & Personal Development

• Earn and maintain PTCB or ExCPT certification through the designated training program and/or state‑required certification/registration.
• Attend training, complete PPLs requested by Manager, and acquire continuing education credits to maintain knowledge and skill in healthcare and pharmacy.

Basic Qualifications

• Be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English, except in Puerto Rico.
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prefer six months of experience in a retail environment.
• Prefer prior work experience with Walgreens.
• Prefer good math skills for accurate prescription filling.
• Prefer good computer skills.
• Prefer knowledge of store inventory control.
• Prefer PTCB or ExCPT certification.
