Job summary

Rochester Regional Health in Rochester, NY seeks a Pharmacy Technician for the Inpatient Pharmacy on nights (9 pm–7 am), full-time with rotating weekends. You will assist with medication preparation, packaging, and delivery within the unit, using EMR and the pharmacy information system to access data and document care.

No prior licensure is required; training will be provided. Strong communication, teamwork, and accurate handling of medications in a busy hospital setting are essential for

  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred.

  • 1 year of work experience in a clinical, retail, or healthcare setting.

Responsibilities

  • Medication Preparation & Delivery: repackage bulk meds and deliver to floors timely.
  • Documentation & Reporting: use EMR and pharmacy information systems; verify quantities.
  • Maintenance & Sterilization: clean equipment; non-sterile compounding; prepare oral liquids, creams, ointments.

Job DescriptionJob Title: Pharmacy TechnicianLocation: Unity HospitalDepartment: Inpatient PharmacyHours Per Week: 36 Hours, Full-timeSchedule: Nights 9p-7a & Rotating WeekendsSUMMARYAs a Pharmacy Tech, your excellent organizational skills and attention to detail make you a crucial resource within the unit and ensure quality patient care.RESPONSIBILITIESMedication Preparation & Delivery. Process and prepare medication orders by repackaging bulk medication into individual-size packages; round to floors in an accurate and timely manner to deliver medication; add measured drugs or nutrients to intravenous solutions under sterile conditionsDocumentation & Reporting. Ensure concise, pertinent, and complete patient care documentation using the EMR system (Electronic Medical Record); use the pharmacy information system to run reports and access medication data; receive and store incoming supplies and verify quantitiesMaintenance & Sterilization. Clean and maintain the repackaging machine after use; perform non-sterile compounding and prepare oral liquids, creams, and ointments in a clean environment; measure and combine medication accurately with proper documentation; ensure proper disposal of medicationREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:None - willing to train.REQUIRED LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:National Pharmacy Certification required within 18 months of hire.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:High School diploma or equivalent preferredExcellent oral and written communication skills for routine interaction with hospital staff, patients, and visitors.1 year of work experience in a clinical, retail, or healthcare setting.EDUCATION:LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS:PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Moderate - Clinical - Moderate clinical roles are patient facing roles that require continual movement, including standing, walking, and lifting 20–50 lbs., along with pushing and pulling medical equipment and assisting with patient positioning. Employees perform frequent bending, twisting, and reaching while completing fine motor tasks in busy or confined clinical environments. High sensory acuity is essential for monitoring patient status and responding to alarms or safety concerns. Emotional and cognitive demands are substantial, involving decision-making under pressure, responding to emergencies, and maintaining sustained focus. Environmental exposures include infectious agents, bodily fluids, chemicals, and radiation. TB testing, mask-fit testing, and physical exams are common requirements.For disease specific care programs refer to the program specific requirements of the department for further specifications on experience and educational expectations, including continuing education requirements.Any physical requirements reported by a prospective employee and/or employee’s physician or delegate will be considered for accommodations.PAY RANGE:$18.50 - $20.50CITY:RochesterPOSTAL CODE:14626The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components.
