Job summary

Northwell Health in New York is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to assist pharmacists in preparing and dispensing medications in a hospital setting.

You will fill, label, and stock unit-dose carts; maintain IV and other records; manage inventory and perform related duties in a fast-paced inpatient pharmacy.

The role requires a High School Diploma, formal technician training, NYS license, and a national certification, with preference for hospital-pharmacy experience.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
• Graduate of a recognized Pharmacy Technician Training Program or equivalent hospital pharmacy experience, required.
• Current national certification through PTCB/NHA, required when hired on/after 3/1/21.
• Current NYS license as a registered pharmacy technician, required when hired on/after 4/25/21.
• Two (2) years experience as a Pharmacy Technician in a hospital pharmacy with a computerized system, preferred.
• Ability to do physically strenuous work, required.

Responsibilities

• Assists in non-professional aspects of preparing and dispensing medication.
• Fills, packages, labels and stocks unit dose carts from patient profiles or pick lists.
• Transports carts to nursing units and makes deliveries as scheduled.
• Fills bottles or packages with measured medication, manually or mechanically.
• Labels containers according to department specifications and assists with IVs/additives.
• Maintains IV records and orders in the inpatient area; enters refills into the computer.
• Maintains inventory and records of stock at pharmacy workstations; supports material control.

Job Description

Assists in the preparation, manufacturing and repackaging of medications. Assists in maintaining records and reports. Maintains sufficient inventories at workstations.

Job Responsibility

Assists Registered Pharmacist in the non-professional (non-judgmental) aspects of preparing and dispensing medication: Fills, packages, labels and stocks unit dose cart from patient profile card or computerized pick list; brings cart to nursing unit according to predetermined schedule; Makes other deliveries, as required; Fills bottles or other package forms with measured amount of medication either manually or mechanically; Labels containers of drugs according to department specification, either manually or mechanically; Assists in clean air room, using sterile technique in filling and labeling injectable prescriptions, where required; Assists in preparation and/or labeling of IV additives; Fills medication orders in inpatient area; and Responsible for extemporaneous medication packaging, as required.
Assists Registered Pharmacist in maintaining a variety of records and reports: Maintains IV records with Pharmacist direction; Maintains records for medication in inpatient area; Maintains records of preparation of extemporaneous medications; Assists in the maintenance of statistics and records for all medication orders; and Enters orders into computer terminal for refill purposes.
Maintains sufficient inventory at workstations in Pharmacy: Transports required pharmacy material, as necessary; Receives and maintains records of stock and inventory control; Assists in material control by maintaining records and inventories; Maintains placement of sufficient daily inventory of supplies to all areas of Pharmacy to assure efficient operating conditions.
Performs related duties, as required.

Job Qualification

High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
Graduate of a recognized Pharmacy Technician Training Program OREquivalent hospital pharmacy experience, required.
Current national certification through Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)/National Healthcare Association (NHA), required when hired on/after 3/1/21.
Current license as a registered pharmacy technician in NYS, required when hired on/after 4/25/21.
Two (2) years experience as a Pharmacy Technician in a hospital pharmacy with a computerized system, preferred.
Ability to do physically strenuous work, required.
