Job summary

UPMC Senior Communities in Steubenville, Ohio, is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to perform a wide range of medication preparation and distribution tasks under the supervision of a registered Pharmacist.

Responsibilities include delivering meds, verifying shipments, packaging, preparing dilutions and compounds, maintaining inventory, operating the hospital computer system, and compounding injectables using aseptic technique. A High School diploma and CPhT certification are required.

Qualifications

• High School graduate or GED.
• Ohio Board of Pharmacy certification within one year of employment.
• Able to follow written and oral directions; perform routine tasks accurately.

Responsibilities

• Delivers medications to patient care areas accurately and in a timely manner.
• Receives and verifies shipments of pharmaceuticals and supplies into storage according to procedure.
• Performs drug packaging tasks.
• Prepares simple dilutions, mixtures, and compounds.
• Responsible for basic inventory procedure.
• Assembles pharmaceuticals according to requisition/refill lists.
• Maintains applicable operational records.
• Restocks medication carts, bins, and trays accurately, and delivers contents to patient care areas as scheduled.
• Performs various tasks using the hospital computer system, including patient billing.
• Responsible for performing tasks related to the automated dispensing machine accurately and efficiently.
• Performs basic tasks relevant to the Pharmacy workflow, such as filling physician orders accurately.
• Prepares injectable medications, using aseptic technique, accurately and efficiently.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Purpose:

This position performs a large variety of technical medication preparation and distribution-related activities as assigned and supervised by a registered Pharmacist. Responsibilities require a level of technical training and the ability to exercise sound judgment within a structured Pharmacy Service system.

A practical knowledge of basic math (including fractions and decimals) is essential. Certification approved by the Ohio Board of Pharmacy is required within one year of employment and must be maintained. Must be able to follow written and oral directions. Must be able to perform routine repetitive tasks on a continuous basis. Accuracy is essential.
