Management & Training Corporation at Gadsden Correctional Facility in Quincy, FL is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to organize and maintain pharmacy operations under supervision. The role supports nursing staff, ensures medication safety, and complies with ACA, FDOC, and HIPAA rules.

The position requires a High School diploma or GED, Florida licensure or near completion, and several years of office and pharmacy experience.

Qualifications

  • High School graduate or GED required; certification/licensing from Florida or within 1 year of licensure.
  • Three years of general office/administrative, pharmacy and/or pharmaceuticals experience preferred.
  • One year in managed care environment and/or inventory management preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and document medications per state and national regs.
  • Maintain drug room security and upkeep of pharmaceutical equipment.
  • Ensure sharps and equipment counts are accurate and timely.
  • Enter medication compliance into the pharmacy system; verify MARS.
  • Perform QA on medication orders, narcotics/sharps counts, and MARS as applicable.
  • Maintain inventory and PAR levels; reorder supplies and match invoices.
  • Maintain logs and documentation of pharmacy orders and PAR levels.
  • Serve on-call for pharmacy or pill call issues.
  • Maintain HIPAA confidentiality of medical records.
  • Adhere to OSHA and local safety guidelines.

Education

Position Summary

Reports administratively to the health services administrator and clinically to the site medical director. Responsible for organizing and maintaining pharmacy operations for the facility. The pharmacy technician utilizes appropriate skills in delegating, educating and evaluating nursing staff to ensure that the pharmacy program operates in compliance with Management and Training Corporation (MTC), American Correctional Association (ACA) standards, and Florida Department of Corrections (FDOC) directives. Gadsden Correctional Facility is a gender responsive, trauma informed female facility. Your responsibilities will include the application of gender responsive and trauma informed care and practices while working with female offenders.

Essential Functions
  • Receive and document medications, abiding by applicable state and national regulations.
  • Ensure drug room security, replace facility working drug stock and maintain the upkeep of the facility drug room and pharmaceutical equipment.
  • Responsible for ensuring sharps and equipment counts are accurate and timely.
  • Enter medication compliance into the pharmacy computer system. Ensure that MARS are accurate and recopied as required.
  • Practice basic cost containment and utilization management for patient care and facility operations. Perform quality assurance on all medication orders, narcotic/sharps counts, and MARS as applicable,
  • Maintain a current inventory of all supplies at established PAR levels.
  • Re-order needed supplies, ensuring all purchase orders are maintained in a log book. Match all invoices to purchase orders to ensure all items have been received.
  • Set, with appropriate guidance, and maintain PAR levels. Maintain all pharmacy orders, logs and documentation.
  • Serve on-call for issues with pharmacy or pill call.
  • Maintain absolute security and confidentiality of all medical records; observe applicable HIPAA rules.
  • Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed; provide regular feedback to staff regarding social skills procedures and intervention techniques.
  • Adhere to OSHA and appropriate local safety guidelines and practices.

It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management.

Education And Experience Requirements

High School graduate or GED equivalent required. Must have appropriate certification or licensing from the state of Florida or be within less than one (1) year of completion of licensure required. Three years of general office/administrative, pharmacy and/or pharmaceuticals experience is preferred. One year experience in a managed care environment and/or inventory management preferred. Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.

Post Hire Requirements

Must attain and maintain appropriate facility security clearance. Must successfully complete annual in-service training requirements.
