Job summary

SSM Health St. Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City is seeking a Pharmacy Technician in a PRN capacity. You will transcribe and prepare medication orders, assist in dispensing, and support sterile/non-sterile compounding under supervision.

You will utilize pharmacy automation, manage inventory, document activities for compliance, and train other staff while upholding HIPAA standards and participating in audits as required.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent licensing.
  • 1 year experience as a pharmacy technician.
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) or equivalent certification.

Responsibilities

  • Transcribes and prepares medication orders under supervision.
  • Assist in non-sterile and sterile compounding as applicable.

Job Summary

Under direct supervision of a pharmacist and according to standard procedures, transcribes, prepares medication orders, assists in dispensing and delivery and ensures proper storage and security of medications. This position is responsible for non-sterile and /or sterile compounding, utilizing pharmacy automation systems, and accurately maintaining required documentation. Also serves as a resource by training others in technical skills and participating in audit processes to ensure compliance and quality standards.

Job Responsibilities and Requirements
Primary Responsibilities
  • Assists in the preparation of medication orders that may include transcription, workflow management, automation utilization, and medication readiness for checking, dispensing, and delivery. Conducts non-sterile and/or sterile compounding of medications.
  • Distributes medications to designated areas and returns unused, discontinued, or damaged doses to the pharmacy. Properly utilizes automation, problem solving, when necessary, to ensure medications are secure and in-date in their area of use.
  • Supports inventory management activities that include receipt, storage, security, and inspection. Ensures that inventory areas are clean, and that inventory is rotated, in-date and properly labeled.
  • Adheres to regulatory requirements and quality assurance standards. Completes all documentation and maintains records in compliance with standard procedures. Promotes a safe practice environment and reports situations that may lead to safety events in addition to safety events that occur.
  • Provides excellent customer service to patients, other staff and ancillary departments and maintains high standards of confidentiality in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  • Conducts reviews and audits, as assigned, to identify gaps in workflows, regulatory compliance, and safety. Reports findings and helps identify action plans to close gaps.
  • Maintains proficiency in at least five documented pharmacy competencies in at least two competency categories.
  • Teaches competencies skills to others including technicians, students, and pharmacists.
  • Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Education
  • High School Diploma/GED or education equivalency for licensing.
Experience
  • One year experience as a pharmacy technician.
Physical Requirements
  • Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
  • Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication. Ability to hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.
  • Frequent keyboard use/data entry.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting and gripping.
  • Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
  • Rare climbing.
