Job summary

Nevada Heart and Vascular Center (NHVC) in Las Vegas is seeking a qualified Pharmacy Technician to support daily operations in the pharmacy.

You will refill prescriptions in the EMR, submit prior authorizations, verify patient coverage, and communicate with patients, physicians and insurers. Strong attention to detail and teamwork are essential.

Must have a Nevada State Pharmacy Technician license and excellent communication skills; bilingual abilities are a plus.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Nevada State Pharmacy Technician license required and approved by the Nevada State Board of Pharmacy.
  • Strong computer skills (word processing, spreadsheets, email).
  • Detail-oriented with good analytical and organizational skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication to interact with patients, staff, physicians, pharmacists, and management.
  • Preferred: cardiology practice experience, familiarity with cardiac medications, bilingual skills.

Responsibilities

  • Refill patient medication orders in the EMR or by fax as prescribed.
  • Submit prior authorizations to insurance for drug coverage.
  • Communicate with patients regarding medication refills and coverage professionally.
  • Interact with pharmaceutical representatives on behalf of NHVC.
  • Respond to fax messages from pharmacies and document in patient records.
  • Attend staff meetings and training as needed.
  • Provide sample medications under physician direction.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education And Experience
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Nevada State Pharmacy Technician license, approved by the Nevada State Board of Pharmacy.
  • General computer skills with working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and email applications.
  • Detail-oriented with good analytical and organizational skills.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, with the ability to work cohesively within a team environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to effectively converse with patients, staff, physicians, pharmacists, all levels of management and any outside sources.
  • Preferred qualification, but not required:
  • Experience in a cardiology practice
  • Familiarity with cardiac medications
  • Bilingual skills

Essential Duties
  • Must follow all policies, procedures, and other directives from administration to include but not limited to:
    • OSHA Safety Manual, Corporate Compliance Manual, HIPAA Compliance Manual, Employee Handbook, and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Must be able to arrive at shift/location by scheduled start time, unless approved by management.
  • Refill patient medication orders in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) or by fax, precisely as received from the prescribing physician.
  • Submit prior authorizations to insurance companies to ensure drug coverage for the patient.
  • Communicate with patients regarding medication refill requests and drug coverage, while maintaining a courteous and professional demeanor.
  • Converse with pharmaceutical representatives, ensuring a competent and polite manner as a representative of NHVC.
  • Respond to fax messages from pharmacies in a timely manner.
  • Submit infusion medication documents, patient demographics, laboratory results and patient medical record notes to infusion centers.
  • Answer multi-line telephone calls from various outside sources, representatives, and patients.
  • Read and interpret physician orders.
  • Accurately review, analyze, and update patient medical records.
  • Attend staff and other meetings and training courses as needed.
  • Provide sample medication(s) to patients under the direction of the physician.
  • Willingness to complete other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements
  • Pharmacy Technician is required to have visual and auditory acuity necessary for communication with other employees, physicians, and patients to meet the business needs of NHVC.
  • Pharmacy Technician must be able to see written documentation and be able to speak and hear for communication with employees, physicians, and patients.
  • Ability to use a wide array of office equipment including, but not limited to a PC, copier, fax machine, and multi-line telephone.
  • Occasional lifting of heavy or awkward items, walking, bending and stretching in a clinical office setting.
