Job summary

Novant Health is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to support our pharmacy team at Kernersville Medical Center. This PRN, primarily 1st shift role involves preparing and dispensing medications, assisting pharmacists, and maintaining inventory while delivering patient-centered service.

Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma or GED, relevant pharmacy experience or certification, and a commitment to patient safety.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; an associate degree is preferred.
  • Two pharmacy skills or equivalent experience required (e.g., medication distribution, sterile compounding, or medication listing) or hired as a Tech 1 and performing a second skill.
  • Outpatient Oncology: two years in any setting with one year in sterile compounding (IV/chemo admixture) required.
  • Specialty Pharmacy: two years in any setting with one year in a specialty setting required.
  • Current registry with State Boards of Pharmacy; PTCB or NHA certification within 60 days or enrollment in pharmacy school/FPGEE/FPGEC.
  • Within 12 months of hire, obtain a relevant specialized certificate (e.g., PTCB, BPTS, NPTA) and maintain.
  • State registration renewal required for pharmacists and technicians; technicians must be certified through PTCB or NHA or be enrolled in school or FPGEE/FPGEC.
  • Ability to drive to multiple facilities; strong math, verbal and written communication skills; follow instructions; work in a high-performing team.

Schedule: PRN - weekdays as needed (primarily 1st shift), every other weekend

What We're Looking For
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED, required. 2 Year / Associate Degree, preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Acute: Minimum of two pharmacy skills (examples may include medication distribution, sterile compounding, and/or medication listing activities) required. OR...hired as a Pharmacy Technician 1 Certified and now competently performing a second pharmacy skill as described above, required.
    • Outpatient Oncology: Minimum of two years of experience in any setting with one year of experience in sterile compounding (of IV and/or chemotherapy admixture), required.
    • Specialty Pharmacy: Minimum of two years in any setting required with one year in specialty setting preferred, required.
  • Licensure/Certification:
    • Current registry with applicable State Board(s) of pharmacy, required.
    • PTCB or NHA Certification within 60 days of hire, or proof of enrollment in pharmacy school/FPEGG/FPGEC, required.
    • A minimum of one relevant specialized certificate/certification from approved vendor such as PTCB, BPTS or NPTA (examples include but are not limited to product verification, medication history, hazardous drug management, billing/reimbursement, controlled substances diversion prevention, medication therapy management, sterile compounding). This must be obtained within 12 months of hire and maintained as applicable, required.
  • Additional skills required:
    • State Registration and/or evidence of renewal is required for both Pharmacists and Technicians fifteen days prior to expiration and Technicians are required to be either certified through Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or National Healthcareer Association (NHA), or be actively enrolled in pharmacy school, or be active in Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Equivalency Examination (FPGEE) or Foreign Pharmacy Equivalency Certification (FPGEC).
    • Considerable knowledge and application of basic math skills, including ratio and proportion relationships; strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Basic technology skills. Other duties as outlined in Novant Health and facility specific policies and procedures. Ability to drive/travel to multiple facilities/locations as needed. Ability to work as part of a high performing, change ready and resilient team.
  • Additional skills preferred:Considerable knowledge of medication names (both trade and generic) and their doses, routes of administration, and adverse effects; the ability to demonstrate patient interview skills and strong written and verbal communication skills with other healthcare professionals. Experience with inventory management.
