Job description

Overview

We\'re building a world of health around every individual—shaping a more connected, convenient and compassionate health experience. CVS Health supports a culture of care, accountability, safety and quality as we simplify health care for individuals, families and communities.

At CVS Health, Pharmacy Technicians (Technicians) play a critical role in supporting pharmacy teams to deliver patient-centric care in our Retail locations. Technicians are often the first point of contact for patients and customers and help ensure pharmacy operations run smoothly, prescriptions are filled promptly, safely and accurately, and caring service exceeds expectations. Technicians follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), best practices and effective communication, contributing to a safe and inclusive culture where all people feel valued and empowered.

In roles where permissible, Technicians may also support immunizations and related services, as described below.

Responsibilities
  • Live our purpose by following all SOPs at each workstation to help Pharmacists manage and improve patient health.
  • Follow pharmacy workflow procedures at each workstation (production, pick-up, drive-thru, drop-off) for safe and accurate prescription fulfillment.
  • Support positive patient experiences by showing empathy and care: delivering personal moments at pick-up, drive-thru and over the phone; offering immunizations and other services as applicable; solving or escalating patient questions and problems.
  • Complete basic inventory activities as directed by the pharmacy leadership team, including putting away deliveries, cycle counts, returns-to-stocks and related tasks.
  • Contribute to a high-performing team, embrace feedback, and actively expand clinical and technical knowledge to better assist patients.
  • Remain flexible for scheduling and business needs; travel to stores in the market as needed to support the business.
  • Understand and comply with applicable laws, regulations, professional standards and ethical principles; adhere to CVS policies to ensure patient safety, controlled substance compliance and privacy.
  • Deliver additional patient health care services (e.g., immunizations, point-of-care testing and offsite clinics) where allowed by law and supported by training and certification.

Where permissible, the Pharmacy Technician may also support immunizations, including:

  • Complete licensure and training to obtain Technician Immunizer status to prepare and administer vaccines.
  • Educate patients about vaccines and refer questions to the Pharmacist on duty.
  • Monitor for adverse reactions and report per public health requirements.
  • Review and collect patient information; track and document for applicable patients.
  • Monitor and manage vaccine supplies.
Required Qualifications
  • Must comply with state board of pharmacy requirements or laws governing practice, including age, education and licensure/certification:
  • If the state board does not specify a minimum age, must be at least 16 years old.
  • If the state board does not specify an educational minimum, must have a high school diploma or equivalent or be actively enrolled in high school or a high school equivalency program.
  • State-level licensure and national certification requirements vary by state. (Note: This content is retained for fidelity and may link to state-specific information.)
Essential Functions
  • Regular and predictable attendance, including nights and weekends.
  • Ability to complete required training within the designated timeframe.
  • Attention and Focus:
    • Concentrate on tasks over time.
    • Pivot quickly between tasks to meet patient and business needs.
    • Verify prescription information and labeling accuracy to ensure patient safety.
  • Customer Service and Team Orientation:
    • Actively help people in a friendly manner.
    • Notice patient reactions and respond appropriately.
  • Communication Skills:
    • Use verbal and written communication with patients and colleagues.
    • Practice active listening and seek to understand before responding.
  • Mathematical Reasoning:
    • Apply math to determine totals, days\' supply and bottle counts for prescriptions.
  • Problem Resolution:
    • Identify challenging interactions and select appropriate action when faced with options.
  • Physical Demands:
    • Be mobile and upright for extended periods; lift, scan and bag items.
    • Reach overhead and move items; perform precise hand-eye tasks; bend and move as needed.
    • Close visual acuity for transcription, computer work and visual inspection.
    • Lift up to 20 lbs occasionally, up to 10 lbs frequently, and perform related physical duties as required.
  • Any additional tasks as directed by Supervisor or Manager.
Preferred Qualifications
