Job summary

MedStar Health in Elkridge, MD is hiring a Full Time Pharmacy Technician within the Specialty Pharmacy. The technician supports Pharmacists in data entry, dispensing and packing, handling complex medication needs with high-touch care.

You will interact with clinic liaisons, coordinators, pharmacists and providers, assist with daily order placement, inventory, billing, cold-chain shipping, and HIPAA compliance, with a schedule from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 1–2 years Pharmacy technician experience in a retail long term care mail order or specialty pharmacy setting required.
• Maryland Pharmacy Technician licensure required upon hire.
• National pharmacy licensure through PTCB or ExCPT required within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Assists with placing the daily order for drugs and supplies; receives checks and puts away the daily order; follows established inventory management procedures; participates in physical inventories and cycle counts.
• Monitors workflow queues and completes all steps in a timely manner ensuring Rx processing is on time.
• Prepares prescriptions for dispensing: counts, verifies, and labels medication accurately and according to policy and legal requirements.
• Processes all payment transactions in person over the phone and through the mail order module.
• Communicates and resolves any payment related denials or discrepancies.
• Prepares prescriptions for packaging for daily shipment; creates invoices and shipping labels; ensures HIPAA compliance and cold chain shipping standards.
• Processes refills and data entry of new prescriptions including demographics, insurance plans, and prescription information.
• Communicates regularly with the clinics and support center about benefits pre-authorizations, financial assistance, copay issues and timely processing.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

MedStar Health is hiring a Full Time Pharmacy Technician within the Specialty Pharmacy located in Elkridge. The pharmacy hours of operation are 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM.

The Pharmacy Technician assists the Pharmacist(s) in all areas of pharmacy operations including data entry, product dispensing and packing of prescription orders. The position requires routine interaction with clinic liaisons, clinic coordinators, pharmacists, and providers as well as pharmacy patients with complex medication needs requiring high touch care and follow up.

Minimal Qualifications

Education

• High School Diploma or GED required

Experience

• 1-2 years Pharmacy technician experience in a retail long term care mail order or specialty pharmacy setting required

Licenses and Certifications

• Maryland Pharmacy Technician licensure required upon hire
• National pharmacy licensure through the nationally accredited certification examination of PTCB (Pharmacy Technician Certification Board) or the ExCPT (Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians) required within 6 months of hire

This position has a hiring range of

USD $19.55 - USD $34.25 /Hr.
