Job summary

Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation in Bethel, Alaska seeks a Pharmacy Technician to support pharmacists and act as a liaison between the pharmacy and village clinics. You will receive and fill village drug orders, stock orders, and mail medications with proper labeling.

Responsibilities include inventory, entering prescriptions, prepackaging, and maintaining records. Prior pharmacy tech experience and a valid driver’s license preferred; high school diploma or GED required.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as liaison between the pharmacy and village clinics.
  • Receives and fills village drug orders with appropriate medications in a timely manner.
  • Receives and fills ward/department stock orders with appropriate medications in a timely manner.
  • Packages patient and stock medications with appropriate labels for mailing to village clinics.
  • Checks stock levels in various hospital departments and replenishes stocks to authorized levels.
  • Inventories all pharmacy supplies, checking expiration dates, rotating stock, and prepares supply/drug orders to be submitted to vendors.
  • Prepackages and properly labels medications in sizes useable for dispensing.
  • Properly enters prescriptions in the computer.
  • Fills and labels medications for dispensing.
  • Maintains statistics on various pharmacy activities.
  • Performs quality improvement/control procedures as required
  • Attends mandatory training, shares knowledge with staff, and helps train new staff as required.

The Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation is a Tribal health care organization, serving nearly 30,000 people living across rural, southwest Alaska in villages with populations from about 10 to more than 1,000. Position Summary:

This position will assist the pharmacists and act as a liaison between the pharmacy and the village clinics.

Position Responsibilities
  • Acts as a liaison between the pharmacy and the village clinics.
  • Receives and fills village drug orders with the appropriate medications in a timely manner.
  • Receives and fills ward/department stock orders with the appropriate medications in a timely manner.
  • Packages patient and stock medications with appropriate labels for mailing to village clinics.
  • Checks stock levels in various hospital departments and replenishes stocks to authorized levels.
  • Inventories all pharmacy supplies, checking expiration dates, rotating stock, and prepares supply/drug orders to be submitted to vendors.
  • Prepackages and properly labels medications in sizes useable for dispensing.
  • Properly enters prescriptions in the computer.
  • Fills and labels medications for dispensing.
  • Performs auto-refill activities including maintaining computer records, talking with CHA/P’s on the phone, properly typing prescription labels, and filling and labeling prescriptions.
  • Maintains statistics on various pharmacy activities.
  • Performs quality improvement/control procedures as required
  • Attends mandatory training, shares knowledge with staff, and helps train new staff as required.
Position Qualifications

Minimum Education: High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED). Must pass basic math quiz.

Minimum Experience: Pharmacy technician experience preferred. Past work experience should include customer service and/or detail-oriented positions.

License, Certification, Registration: Valid driver’s license preferred.

Equipment/Tools: Office equipment (i.e., computers, multi-line telephone, fax machine, etc.)

Specialized Knowledge And Skills

Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Ability to speak Yup’ik is preferred.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
