Job summary

PharMerica, a national provider of pharmacy services, is hiring a Pharmacy Technician in Asheville, NC to support long-term care and senior living clients in a closed-door, non-retail environment. You'll ensure accurate dispensing and high-quality service as part of a dedicated team.

The role requires NC license within 30 days, strong attention to detail, and good communication. This full-time position offers healthcare benefits, PTO, 401(k), tuition programs, and shift incentives.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; pharmacy setting experience and medical terminology knowledge.
  • Ability to operate a computer and recognize medications; detail-oriented and a team player.
  • Pharmacy technician license required; long-term care pharmacy experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Fill prescription items, package for dispensing and delivery with accuracy.
  • Label products with appropriate cautions and auxiliary labels.
  • Participate in periodic inventory and stock management.
  • Process returns from facilities for credit or destruction.
  • Assist in training new employees.
  • Work with automated systems and measure Days on Hand inventory.
  • Input patient data and orders into the system to generate labels.

Shift

4 10‑hour days with 1‑hour lunch. 9 am–8 pm Monday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday (day off on Tuesdays).

Licensing

Must hold an active North Carolina Pharmacy Technician license within the first 30 days of employment.

Responsibilities
  • Fill prescription items, as permitted by the State Board of Pharmacy, packaging medications for dispensing and for delivery, and meet the accuracy and productivity standards of the pharmacy.
  • Label products appropriately, including cautionary or auxiliary labels.
  • Participate in the periodic inventory of the pharmacy.
  • Check in drugs and supplies, stock shelves, and remove out‑of‑date items from inventory.
  • Prepare medications including emulsions, liquids, powders and ointments, which may include non‑sterile compounding.
  • Communicate with internal and external customers in a pleasant and professional manner.
  • Process returned medications from the facility for credit or destruction.
  • Assist in training new employees.
  • Also perform at least one of the following:
    • Work in the Controlled Drugs (Narcotics) Room.
    • Work with an automated machine to prepack drugs.
    • Manage inventory functions such as monitoring pharmaceutical levels and identifying expired medications, maintaining pharmacy standard for Days on Hand.
    • Input patient data and medication orders into a computer system to produce labels (data entry).
    • Mix/package IV medications, sanitize IV room, equipment, and hood.
  • Service facility‑based medication dispensing machines (e.g., RxNow).
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent; experience in a pharmacy setting and with medical terminology; ability to operate a computer; ability to recognize and identify medications; detail oriented, goal oriented, team player, effective oral communication; pharmacy technician license.
  • Desired: experience in a long‑term care pharmacy.
