Job summary

UNM Sandoval Regional Medical Center is seeking a Pharmacy Technician Supervisor to coordinate and oversee a range of technician duties, scheduling, and training. You will ensure adherence to hospital policies and patient safety across Neonate to Geriatric care.

Qualified candidates will have at least 3 years of related experience, NM certification within 60 days, and CPR/BLS within 30 days. The role includes sign-on bonus opportunities and a full-time schedule.

Qualifications

  • Essential: High School or GED or equivalent.
  • Essential: Program Graduate.
  • Essential: Pharmacy Tech certification or credentialed status.
  • Essential: 3 years directly related experience.
  • Essential: CPR for Healthcare/Basic Life Support within 30 days.
  • Credentials: Certified Pharmacy Technician in NM within 60 days.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise pharmacy technicians and assign work; train and coach staff.
  • Coordinate scheduling and project assignments; oversee daily operations.
  • Ensure accurate compounding and dispensing of medications, including IV and sterile products.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures; monitor compliance with laws and hospital policies.
  • Prepare and maintain reports; analyze data to improve quality and safety.

Position Summary

Coordinate and oversee a variety of pharmacy technician duties to include scheduling, project assignments and other related duties. Supervise assigned pharmacy techs. Provide training to pharmacy techs. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric age groups.

Detailed Responsibilities
  • SUPERVISION - Develop efficient organizational structure. Supervise employees and select, terminate, train, educate, correct deficiencies, perform appraisals, issue discipline, counsel, schedule work assignments; encourage staff teamwork and growth initiatives
  • TECHNICIAN - Perform duties of Tech I and II as required
  • SUPERVISION - Supervise and oversee activities of lower level technical staff to include scheduling and project assignment; select, train and evaluate division personnel; implement discipline and termination procedures
  • TRAINING - Coordinate design and implement section orientation and training programs
  • MEDICATIONS - Ensure compounding and dispensing of medications is accurate and timely to include IV solutions and other sterile products as required by practice site
  • POLICY & PROCEDURE - Participate in the development and implementation of policies and procedures; identify and recommend areas of improvement; prepare and maintain a variety of reports; analyze and interpret reports as required
  • COMPLIANCE - Ensure compliance with applicable Federal, State and local laws and UNM Hospitals' policies and procedures
  • REPORTS - Prepare and maintain a variety of reports; analyze and interpret reports as required
  • LIAISON - Serve as a liaison for assigned area; coordinate activities in collaboration with other staff professionals, divisions, departments and organizations; may chair steering committees
  • SPECIAL PROJECTS - Assist with planning and coordinating of special projects, events and the area quality improvement program; provide and coordinate staff training
  • MEETINGS - Attend and participate in professional group meetings; stay abreast of new trends and innovations
  • POLICY & PROCEDURE - Participate in the development and implementation of policies and procedures and/or guidelines within assigned area
  • PATIENT SAFETY 1 - Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols
  • PATIENT SAFETY 2 - Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes
  • PATIENT SAFETY 3 - Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk
  • PATIENT SAFETY 4 - Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner
  • PATIENT SAFETY 5 - Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right"

Physical Conditions

Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.
