Job summary

Food City in Tennessee is seeking a pharmacy internship candidate to assist in prescription intake, data entry, and customer service within the pharmacy department. The role involves handling phone inquiries, processing prescriptions, and supporting insurance claims with attention to accuracy and compliance.

Interns will gain hands-on experience in stock management, cash handling, and patient-focused service while maintaining a clean and organized work environment.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of the Course Work and Examination for Certification from the PTCB or ICPT Pharmacy Certification Boards.
• Receive prescriptions by phone where allowed by State Regulations.
• Provide courteous service to customers at all times.
• Answer calls that do not require pharmacist expertise.
• Enter prescription data into computer systems.
• Stock over‑the‑counter products.
• Operate cash register and handle payments.
• Assist in insurance claims processing.

Responsibilities

• Receive and process prescriptions and telephone refill requests.
• Gather information needed to prepare prescriptions and record before dispensing.
• Enter data into computer systems and maintain accurate records.
• Stock and organize OTC products and maintain a clean department.
• Assist in handling insurance claims and verify payments.
• Help customers locate OTC products and provide guidance.
• Operate the cash register and process transactions.
• Maintain overall cleanliness of the pharmacy department and supplies.

Essential Job Functions

• Successful completion of the Course Work and Examination for Certification from the PTCB or ICPT Pharmacy Certification Boards.
• If allowed by State Regulation, and authorized by the Pharmacist in Charge, receive oral prescriptions from prescribers or prescribers’ authorized designees. (This refers primarily to new telephone prescriptions.)
• Provide and promote efficient and courteous service to customers at all times.
• Answer telephone and handle questions that do not require a pharmacist’s expertise or judgment.
• Receive written prescriptions or telephone refill requests.
• Gather information needed to prepare prescriptions.
• Record information needed before prescriptions can be dispensed.
• Store written prescriptions forms after prescriptions are dispensed.
• Enter data into computer.
• Stock over the counter products.
• Place completed prescriptions in pick-up area.
• Assist in preparing insurance claims and verify payments.
• Help customers find over-the-counter products.
• Maintain a clean department and work area.
• Assist in maintaining and stocking pharmacy department supplies.
• Additional job duties may be assigned as needed.
• Operate cash register.
