Job summary

Orchard Hospital is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to work under the supervision of the Pharmacist and in collaboration with the health care team. The role supports pharmacy operations, inventory management, and data entry for medication orders and patient records.

The ideal candidate will be a California-licensed Pharmacy Technician with a current BLS certificate and a Pharmacy Technician Program credential.

Qualifications

  • Must hold California Pharmacy Technician License/Certification in good standing.
  • Graduate of a Pharmacy Technician Program.
  • Current BLS Certificate.
  • High School graduate or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Supports departmental operation during assigned shift to maintain quality metrics and compliance with regulations.
  • Assists in maintaining inventory, processes orders, and ensures proper storage of pharmacy items.
  • Enters and maintains orders and medication database to support pharmacy and electronic health records in nursing units.
  • Supports quality initiatives and regulatory standards (e.g., MERP, 340B, P&T, Safety and Infection Control).
  • Demonstrates proficiency with Orchard Hospital HIS, Omnicell, ELearning, and hospital policies and procedures.
  • Communicates effectively with health care team to promote patient and staff safety and attend mandatory trainings.

Job description

The Pharmacy Technician, under the direct supervision of the Pharmacist and in collaboration with the provider and other healthcare team members, performs technical support functions in the Pharmacy Department to ensure effective innovative and cost‑efficient pharmacy services and supports Orchard Hospital's core mission to provide clinically excellent patient care.

Qualifications
  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Graduate of a Pharmacy Technician Program.
  • California Pharmacy Technician License/Certification current and in good standing.
  • Current BLS Certificate.
  • One Year of hospital/healthcare pharmacy experience preferred.
Job Requirements
  • Supports departmental operation during assigned shift to maintain department and organizational quality metrics, purchasing and inventory, performance improvement, and pillar goals; at all times maintaining appropriate knowledge and compliance with confidentiality standards. Utilizes problem solving skills to adhere to organizational regulations, accreditation, policies and procedures at all times; keeping pharmacist informed of department activities.
  • Assists in maintaining and properly storing an adequate inventory of pharmacy items, floor stock, automated dispensing units, rotates and monitors stock and expiration dates. Processes orders with wholesalers and manufacturers. Performs monthly nursing unit and pharmacy inspections, responds timely to requests/recommendations from clinical staff and providers, maintaining a clean pharmacy and work area. Accurately fills unit dose medications and prep according to orders and under pharmacist's supervision. Perform repackaging as indicated.
  • Enters and maintains as appropriate: orders and medication database to support pharmacy and electronic health records in all nursing units supported - ED, SNF, Acute, Surgical, and RHC.
  • Supports pharmacy quality initiatives - assisting with and collecting monthly statistical information and supports regulatory standards (e.g. OSHA, and other state / federal agencies); Medication Error Reduction Program (MERP), 340B, Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T) Committee, Safety and Infection Prevention and Control and Antimicrobial Stewardship.
  • Demonstrates proficiency navigating through Orchard Hospital Health Information Systems (HIS) including Emergency Department, Acute Care and Clinic Electronic Records as indicated, Omnicell, ELearning, and Orchard Hospital Policies and Procedures.
  • Demonstrates effective communication with members of the health care team to achieve desired outcomes; Supports department wide maintenance of a strong culture of patient and staff safety with balanced accountability. Attends and participates in all required in-service training and mandatory meetings (including department staff meetings).
