Position Overview

Evaluates drugs prescribed by physicians for appropriateness of dose, therapeutic efficacy, allergy, drug interaction, and contraindications. Maintains accurate and complete documentation of all medication-related activities to ensure proper distribution. All responsibilities are subject to review by a licensed pharmacist.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

1. Assist in achieving department goals under supervision, adhering to policies, procedures, quality, and safety standards, and complying with regulations.
2. Help prepare reports by compiling information.
3. Support troubleshooting and maintenance of automated drug distribution systems and serve as a resource for staff on drug control.
4. Assist pharmacists with filling orders, IV preparation, and delivery.
5. Regularly check stock to ensure compliance with FDA requirements.
6. Participate in training pharmacy technicians and staff to ensure timely medication delivery.
7. Under supervision, advise patients and healthcare professionals on medication use, including dosage, side effects, and composition.
8. Assist in compounding, labeling, and packaging medications.
9. Ensure secure storage of narcotics and controlled substances.
10. Prepare clinical briefs for healthcare staff.
11. With demonstrated competency, consult with medical staff on drug utilization and monitor drug therapy appropriateness, suggesting adjustments as needed.
12. Participate in meetings, committees, and community outreach.
13. Engage in quality and service improvement initiatives.
14. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Active enrollment in a Pharm.D. program from an ACPE-accredited school.
• Less than 1 year and 6 months of hospital experience.
• Certified by a national pharmacy technician certification program or registered as a Pharmacy Technician in Maryland, or eligible for a student exemption.
• Active PharmD student in an accredited program.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Basic computer skills preferred.

This position offers a salary range of $17.50 to $28.73 per hour.
