Job summary

Ochsner Health in Louisiana is seeking a Pharmacy Intern to accurately compound IV admixtures and other extemporaneous preparations using sterile techniques. You will stock the IV room and Central Pharmacy, fill medication orders, and enter ADR data into the computer, while adapting to patient privacy and safety standards.

Required is enrollment in an accredited College of Pharmacy, current Pharmacy Intern Permit, and ability to travel between facilities.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in accredited College of Pharmacy and NABP-related eligibility.
• Must hold a current Pharmacy Intern Permit in state of practice.
• Proficient with basic computer applications and data entry.

Responsibilities

• Prepares IV admixtures and extemporaneous compounds.
• Stocks and fills medication orders in Central Pharmacy and IV room.
• Enters adverse drug reaction data into the computer system.

This job accurately compounds IV Admixtures and other assigned preparations utilizing aseptic technique and proper pharmaceutical procedures; maintains stock in all assigned areas including the IV room, Central Pharmacy, compounded items and bottles and vials; accurately fills medication orders; and accurately enters ADR data into computer. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education

• Required - Enrolled in good standing in an accredited College of Pharmacy or graduate who has successfully passed the NABP Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Examination

Work Experience

• Required - Experience working with standard Pharmacy and office equipment

Certifications

• Required - Current Pharmacy Intern Permit from the State Board of Pharmacy, permitted to practice as a pharmacy intern by the Board of Pharmacy in the state of practice

Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

• Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patient information.
• Must be proficient with Windows-style applications and keyboard.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Must be able to travel throughout and between facilities.
