Job summary

Greater Baltimore Medical Center is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to assist under direct supervision of a pharmacist. You will prepare medications and IV solutions, label orders, and process physician medication orders while ensuring accuracy and compliance.

Job description

Under direct supervision of a pharmacist and following prescribed procedures, assists in processing physicians' medication orders. Prepares various drugs and I.V. solutions for delivery to patients and labels pharmaceutical orders.

• Basic knowledge of the metric system.
• Basic knowledge of the different types of pharmaceutical dosage forms and drug nomenclature.
• Ability to perform the basic ratio and proportion mathematical calculations.
• Ability to enter data via various computer applications in a timely manner.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

• Triages telephone calls / window requests.
• Operates pharmacy automation systems to include Medtech.
• Fills unit dose carts. Operates pharmacy distribution automation.
• Fills medication orders by obtaining appropriate drug products, preparing any necessary labels, completing appropriate records, and completing appropriate records for drug distribution. Notifies pharmacist of any discrepancies.
• Replenishes Pharmacy dispensing stock, places them in the appropriate locations and notifies Pharmacy Purchasing Coordinator of low stock situations. Assists in controlled substance inventory, record keeping and distribution.
• Performs miscellaneous departmental housekeeping duties such as disinfecting the laminar flow workstations at specified intervals and maintaining equipment.
• Prepackages oral medications (i.e., tablets, capsules and liquids) and prepares I.V. solutions for dispensing to patients.
• Reads e-mail daily on scheduled work days.
• Sorts various documents sent to the department and appropriately distributes accordingly for processing in a timely fashion.
• Identifies and anticipates issues. Takes responsibility to resolve issue.

Pay Range

$17.35 - $26.36

Final salary offer will be based on the candidate's qualifications, education, experience and alignment with our organizational needs.
