MaineHealth is seeking a Pharmacy Prior Authorization Technician to coordinate and process prior authorizations for prescription medications. The role collaborates with providers, pharmacists, payers, and patients to facilitate PA submissions and documentation in the EHR.

Initially focusing on specialty medications in specific clinics, the role will expand over time to support the clinical team and reduce treatment delays, improving medication access across Maine and New Hampshire.

Competenze

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• State Pharmacy Technician license or eligibility; CPhT certification required.
• One year of licensed pharmacy technician experience.

Mansioni

• Review medication orders needing prior authorization, especially specialty meds.
• Initiate and complete PA requests through electronic portals.
• Communicate with insurance companies to gather coverage requirements and status updates.
• Collaborate with providers and pharmacists to obtain clinical documentation for PA submissions.
• Document PA status, approvals, denials, and follow-ups in Epic using SmartPhrases.
• Notify providers of PA outcomes and assist with alternative medication strategies when needed.
• Track and manage open prior authorizations to ensure timely resolution and refill coordination.
• Support clinic staff and patients with status updates or coverage information as allowed.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of payer formulary changes and authorization requirements.
• Participate in continuous quality improvement and workflow optimization efforts.
