Job summary

Kroger, operating as Fry's Food Stores in Apache Junction, AZ, is seeking a Pharmacy Intern for a part-time role in the Pharmacy department. You will assist with customer service, input prescriptions, dispense medications, and support immunization services under pharmacist supervision.

Ideal candidates are actively enrolled in a pharmacy program and hold a valid intern license. Responsibilities include patient education, dispensing, insurance processing, and collaboration with prescribers.

  • Answer customer questions about products and pharmacy services to create a welcoming environment.
  • Provide drug counseling and discuss pharmaceutical products with customers and prescribers.
  • Input patient and prescription information accurately into the pharmacy system.
  • Dispense medications and process third-party insurance information.
  • Obtain prescriber authorization when needed and contact offices as required.
  • Assist with immunizations under the supervision of the pharmacist.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety of the department and report potential safety issues.

Job description

Assist the department manager in reaching sales and profit goals established for the department, and monitor all established quality assurance standards. Responsibilities
  • Promote trust and respect among associates.
  • Create an environment that enables customers to feel welcome, important and appreciated by answering questions regarding products sold within the department and throughout the store.
  • Gain and maintain knowledge of pharmaceutical products and be able to competently discuss these products with customers and prescribers.
  • Provide drug counseling to customers.
  • Assist with over the counter medications recommendations.
  • Accurately input patient and prescription information into the pharmacy computer system.
  • Dispense the correct medication.
  • Contact prescribers’ offices for authorization.
  • Bag filled prescriptions and deliver to customer accurately.
  • Process third party insurance information for customers.
  • Contact insurance companies on the behalf of the customers, if necessary
  • Facilitate charge purchases for customers.
  • Accept and interpret oral and written prescriptions accurately for fill/refill.
  • Clean the department.
  • Provide immunizations under the supervision of the pharmacist
  • Compare and check incoming orders.
  • Return unused medication stock bottles to stock.
  • Notify management of customer or employee accidents.
  • Notify pharmacist on duty if they are made aware of a prescription incident.
  • Report all safety risk, or issues, and illegal activity, including: robbery, theft or fraud.
  • Ability to work cooperatively in high paced and sometimes stressful environment.
  • Ability to manage conflict in a reasonable, nonconfrontational and cooperative manner.
  • Ability to act with honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information.
  • Ability to follow directions and seek assistance when necessary to resolve customer and business issues.
  • Provide support and assistance through direct interaction with minors, individuals with special needs, and/or older adults.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation
