Job summary

Mountain View Hospital in Idaho is seeking a Clinical Pharmacist specialized in NICU/Pediatric to join our team. You will interpret prescriptions, dispense medications, and serve as a drug information resource for medical, nursing, and ancillary staff.

You will prepare IV admixtures, monitor patient profiles, and help teach departmental programs while upholding hospital policies to ensure patient safety and high-quality care.

Qualifications

  • Pharmacy degree from an accredited school; Idaho licensure required.
  • Education addressing newborn to geriatric populations is preferred.
  • Current Idaho Pharmacist licensure and ability to read English clearly.

Responsibilities

  • Review prescriptions to ensure accuracy and appropriate ingredients.
  • Compound medications using standard formulas and processes.
  • Monitor patient profiles for allergies, interactions, and duplications.
  • Verify orders before delivery to ensure correct drug and dosage.
  • Support patient safety and reduce healthcare errors in care areas.
  • Prepare IV admixtures and extemporaneous parenteral products aseptically.
  • Direct staff in admixing, packaging and labeling of pharmaceuticals.
  • Answer questions for physicians, nurses, patients on medications and effects.
  • Assist in in-service teaching for department, medical, nursing, and community.
  • Uphold department and hospital policies and procedures.
  • Ensure equipment and supplies are properly maintained.

Mountain View Hospital is looking for a Clinical Pharmacist - NICU/Pediatric to join our team!

JOB SUMMARY

Interprets physician prescriptions and medication orders. Acts as a drug information resource to patients, medical staff, nursing staff and ancillary department personnel. Compounds and dispenses prescribed medications and other pharmaceuticals for patient care by performing the related duties.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • 1. Reviews prescriptions issued by physicians or other authorized prescribers to assure accuracy and determines formulas and ingredients needed.
  • 2. Compounds medications using standard formulas and processes such as weighing, measuring, and mixing ingredients.
  • 3. Monitors all posting onto the patient profiles in order that accuracy, drug allergies, drug interactions, duplicate therapy and incompatibilities may be realized and better patient care received.
  • 4. Checks patient medication orders prior to delivery to patient care areas to ascertain that the correct drug, dosage form, schedule and strength is being dispensed.
  • 5. Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
  • 6. Prepares IV admixtures and extemporaneous parenteral products under aseptic conditions.
  • 7. Directs Pharmacy Department personnel engaged in admixing, packaging and labeling pharmaceuticals.
  • 8. Answers questions and provides information to physicians, nurses, patients and other healthcare professionals on the appropriate use of medications, drug interactions, side effects, dosage, storage, etc.
  • 9. Assists in teach programs (departmental, medical, nursing, and community).
  • 10. Endorses policies and procedures of the department and of the hospital.
  • 11. Ensures the maintenance and proper operation of equipment and supplies in the work areas.

Education/Certification

Doctorate of Pharmacy degree or Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent. Graduated from an accredited School of Pharmacy. Current Pharmacist certification or licensure in the State of Idaho. Education in all age groups ranging from newborn to the geriatric population obtained either in school education or subsequent training.

Experience

None required, but preferred

Equipment/Technology

Basic computer knowledge. Grasp of automated pharmacy systems, IV Laminar Flow Hood or the willingness to learn.

Language/Communication

Ability to read and communicate effectively in English. Additional languages preferred.

Mathematical Skills

Demonstrates ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as dosage calculations, formulation of pharmaceutical preparations, data analysis, exponents and logarithms.
