Job summary

Beaufort Jasper Hampton Comprehensive Health Services, Inc. seeks a Pharmacy Manager/Pharmacist-In-Charge (PIC) to ensure adherence to pharmacy procedures and regulations, supervise staff, and coordinate drug patient care.

The PIC will oversee 340B compliance, provide clinical drug information, and maintain safety, labeling, and documentation across the department. Strong leadership and EHR proficiency are required.

Qualifications

• Must possess a current South Carolina Registered Pharmacist license.
• Good standing with South Carolina State Board of Pharmacy.
• Diploma (BS or Pharm.D) from accredited College of Pharmacy.
• Certified through APhA's national immunization program and CPR training.
• Computer skills required: Pharmacy Management Software; POS Software; MS Office; EHR.

Responsibilities

• Owns all PIC responsibilities as described by State regulations.
• Carries out supervisory responsibilities per BJHCHS policies and applicable laws.
• Mentors new staff and assists with training of all staff as requested.
• Works within the health center’s EHR to locate, retrieve or process information for pharmacy operations and compliance.
• Reviews and interprets providers’ orders for appropriateness and ensures proper labeling, storage and use.
• Maintains compliance with State & Federal Regulations governing pharmacy operation.
• Provides drug information and counseling to patients and healthcare practitioners.
• Performs essential duties including data entry, inventory, dispensing, and processing drug requests.
• Ensures quality of professional services and adheres to auditable drug records.

Position Summary

The Pharmacy Manager/Pharmacist-In-Charge (PIC) is to ensure adherence to Beaufort Jasper Hampton Comprehensive Health Service (BJHCHS) pharmacy operating procedures, State and Federal regulations and provide supervision for pharmacy staff. The PIC is responsible for safe and efficient methods for coordination of established pharmacy policy concerning drug patient care, 340B compliance, and providing clinical drug information to meet the needs of the patient and clinical staff.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Owns all PIC responsibilities as described by State regulations.
• Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with BJHCHS policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include training associates; planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
• Completes evaluations of staff and any associated coaching or documentation.
• Mentors new staff and assists with training of all staff as requested.
• Supports experiential training of pharmacy trainees and mentor’s pharmacy students (IPPE and APPE) as requested. Demonstrates desire and aptitude for teaching and maintains competency in quality preceptor attributes including the roles of a preceptor. Completes preceptor skills assessment and development programs.
• Works within the health center’s EHR to locate, retrieve or process the appropriate information required for pharmacy operations and compliance.
• Is responsible for the overall operation, direction, coordination, and compliance of the pharmacy.
• Complies with all State & Federal Regulations governing the operation and practice of Pharmacy including but not limited to: Dispensing of prescriptions; Record keeping; Drug recalls; Security; and Sanitation.
• Reviews and interprets providers’ orders for appropriateness and ensures that drugs are appropriately labeled, stored and utilized according to physicians’ instructions. Counsels patients about their medications and maintains an accurate, up-to-date patient profile.
• Performs essential job functions throughout scheduled hours accurately and efficiently, including but not limited to: data entry, inventory, stocking, dispensing, reporting, preparing drug requests, ensuring that the order is accurate, processing returns as necessary and selling of prescriptions.
• Verifies the work performed by support personnel, which includes but not limited to: patient drug data entry, drug repackaging, 340B eligibility, and compliance.
• Responsible for ensuring that the Pharmacy Department adheres to all State & Federal laws and regulations as well as BJHCHS standards and policies.
• Maintains necessary controls and records with respect to auditable drugs and processes.
• Provides drug information such as dosing, compatibilities and appropriate substitutes to other health care practitioners.
• Participates in in-service education programs when requested.
• Arranges to obtain drugs in emergency situations.
• Maintains up-to-date knowledge of the profession by complying with National and State Standards of Continuing Education to maintain professional competency and proficiency.
• Participates in clinical programs instituted in the department such as drug-level monitoring, antibiotic monitoring, administering vaccines, floor stock consulting, medication therapy management (MTM) consults and other clinical or compliance services as determined by the Pharmacy Director.
• Immediately reports any prescription errors to the Director of Pharmacy. Assists in the completion of the Medication Error Report Form as appropriate.
• Ensures that the quality of professional services is maintained.
• Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

Supervisory Duties And Responsibilities

• Indirectly supervises any technicians within the pharmacy department.
• Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
