Job summary

UCLA Health in Los Angeles is seeking a Pharmacy Intern to support inpatient operations under direct supervision of a registered pharmacist. You will participate in drug distribution, packaging, IV and chemotherapy preparation, inventory control in Pyxis medstations, and related record-keeping.

This role requires enrollment in a PharmD program, a California Pharmacy Intern license, and strong accuracy in pharmaceutical calculations.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a Pharm D. Program - Required.
• CA Pharmacy Intern license - Required.
• 2 years of inpatient pharmacy experience - Highly preferred.
• Ability to accurately perform pharmaceutical calculations.
• Knowledge of pharmaceutical generic and trade names and their dosage forms, and the ability to cross-reference the most common drugs from memory.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and pharmaceutical abbreviations.
• Skill in preparing intravenous solutions using aseptic technique.
• Ability to work independently and follow-through on assignments with minimal supervision.
• Skill in computer order entry of medication orders as well as other related computer entry tasks and computer report generation.
• Telephone and verbal skills required to communicate clearly and effectively with pharmacists, nurses, physicians and other allied health professionals.
• Ability to compound chemotherapy solution utilizing departmental guidelines for the preparation/distribution of cytotoxic agents.
• Ability to lift 25 lbs and push 50 lbs

Responsibilities

• Perform drug distribution and pre-packaging in inpatient areas.
• Maintain Pyxis medstations inventory and check expirations.
• Assist with IV and chemotherapy sterile compounding.
• Handle record-keeping including refrigerator temperature logs and hood cleaning.
• Support billing, housekeeping and security functions as needed.

Under direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, when you are assigned to an inpatient practice area, you will perform those repetitive and manipulative activities which primarily consist of drug distribution duties, pre-packaging, maintaining the inventory in the Pyxis medstations (filling the medstation daily, checking for outdates), IV and chemotherapy sterile compounding, record keeping (refrigerator temperature logs and hood cleaning), billing, housekeeping and security functions.

Schedule: Varied hours, depending on department needs, including weekends and holidays

Hourly Salary Rate: $39.20
