Henry Ford Health System seeks an Inpatient Pharmacy Intern to work alongside staff Pharmacists in Detroit, MI. You will participate in the drug distribution system and provide clinical services under licensed pharmacist supervision.

The role requires enrollment or graduation from a School/College of Pharmacy and Michigan Board of Pharmacy intern licensure, with strong communication and teamwork in a hospital setting.

Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled in or a graduate from a School/College of Pharmacy.
  • Must be licensed as a Pharmacy Intern by the Michigan Board of Pharmacy.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with patients, physicians, nurses and HFH staff.
  • Must possess a pleasant personality and be able to relate to and work with professional staff in a hybrid position.

Responsibilities

  • Dispenses unit dose, IV admixtures, and other pharmaceuticals for patient administration.
  • Interprets medication orders and clarifies any unclear orders with physicians.
  • Identifies and monitors pharmaceutical needs of patients.
  • Reviews patient charts and interviews patients, physicians, and nurses for medication records.
  • Reviews drug information to identify problems and recommends solutions.
  • Provides drug and poison information to patients and healthcare staff.
  • Performs other duties as needed.

Exciting opportunity to join Henry Ford Health as an Inpatient Pharmacy Intern and work alongside our staff Pharmacists, making an impact on patient care.

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Location: Detroit, MI (Moross)

The pharmacy intern actively participates in all aspects of the drug distribution system and works with pharmacists in providing clinical services for patients in his/her assigned area. In accordance with Michigan law, interns always work under the direct
supervision of a licensed pharmacist.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Dispenses unit dose, intravenous admixtures, and other pharmaceuticals for subsequent administration to patients
  • Interprets physician medication orders and clarifies any unclear orders
  • Identifies and monitors the pharmaceutical needs of patients
  • Reviews patient charts and/or interviews the patient, physician, or nurse to obtaininformation for medication records and profiles.
  • Reviews drug relatedinformation to identify potential problems regarding drug therapy andrecommends appropriate solutions to those problems
  • Provides drug and poison information for patients, physicians, nurses and otherhealth care professionals
  • Performs other duties as needed

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Must be enrolled or a graduate from a school or college of Pharmacy
  • Must be licensed as a Pharmacy Intern by the Michigan Board of Pharmacy
  • Must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and courteously with patients, physicians, nurses and other HFH staff
  • Must possess a pleasant personality, be able to relate to and work with professional and technical staff recognizing the hybrid nature of this position
