Overview

Job Objectives: Provides pharmacy consulting services to customers regarding the effective usage of medications, awareness of drug interactions, and offering preventive healthcare services such as immunizations. Responsible for ensuring the proper compounding, dispensation, review, and verification of prescribed medications within regulatory guidelines, company policies, and procedures. Supports the efficient workflow of the pharmacy and assists the pharmacy manager in identifying ways to optimize pharmacy financials, inventory management, and enhance customer experience.

Responsibilities
  • Customer Experience: Engages customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services. Resolves customer issues in a timely manner and answers questions to ensure a positive customer experience.
  • Customer Service Excellence: Models and shares customer service best practices with all team members to deliver a distinctive and delightful customer experience, including interpersonal habits and Walgreens service traits.
  • Relationship Building: Develops strong relationships with valuable customers by anticipating needs and proactively offering services, including patient consultation, medication management, and wellness services (e.g., immunizations, diabetes awareness).
  • Operations: Counsels patients on usage of medicines, side effects, interactions, contraindications, privacy, generics, cost-effective options, and OTC products; refers to medical providers as needed.
  • Pharmacy Tasks: Performs compounding, drug therapy reviews, verification, and medication management; reviews and dispenses prescribed medications accurately when needed.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensures pharmacy operations comply with regulations, policies, and standards; assists in establishing procedures to promote efficient workflow; handles opening/closing and shift change duties.
  • Good Faith Dispensing: Ensures use of Good Faith principles in accordance with state and federal controlled substance laws; responsible for ensuring these elements are present.
  • Pharmacy Systems: Maintains knowledge of pharmacy IT systems (e.g., Intercom Plus, registers, automation, StoreNET) and proposes improvements to promote productivity.
  • Insurance & Third-Party: Ensures accurate processing of insurance claims, follows up with insurers and providers, and participates in third-party audits.
  • Provider Communication: Follows up with medical providers to clarify prescriptions, dosages, refills, interactions, and allergies; suggests alternatives and answers questions.
  • Healthcare Services: Performs retail, clinical, and wellness services including immunizations and preventive care.
  • Performance & Inventory: Assists in analyzing performance data (financial, customer service) and implements procedures for asset protection and inventory management; reviews KPIs with management.
  • Community & Partnerships: Maintains relationships with local medical professionals; participates in community outreach to promote the pharmacy and growth opportunities.
  • Virtual Operations: Collaborates with Central Pharmacy Operations for customer registration and third-party reviews; conducts virtual product reviews following company procedures.
People & Performance Management
  • Assists the Pharmacy Manager with staff hiring and training; coaches and provides feedback; monitors customer service and fosters employee development.
  • Promotes teamwork, sets expectations, monitors progress, and fosters a shared vision.
Training & Personal Development
  • Maintains knowledge of pharmacy and healthcare by reading journals and company publications; stays aware of developments in retail and management and pursues best practices.
  • Obtains necessary certifications and training as required by the company.
  • Seeks professional development by soliciting feedback and leveraging managers as mentors.
Communications
  • Supports Pharmacy Manager and Store Manager by communicating relevant corporate health and wellness services or strategy information to pharmacy staff.
Basic Qualifications
  • Willingness to obtain a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm D) degree from an accredited institution prior to start date.
  • Willingness to obtain pharmacist licensure from the respective Board of Pharmacy within 90 days of hire per district guidelines.
  • Certified Immunizer or willing to become an immunizer within 90 days of hire.
