Job summary

The Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Pharmacy Services Clinical Intern - Emerging Therapies & Health Outcomes will assist in analyzing literature and claims data, supporting research projects and helping develop educational materials for prescribers and patients.

As an intern, you will participate in multidisciplinary workgroups, attend meetings, and contribute to disease management initiatives while applying Pharmacy School knowledge to a managed care setting.

Qualifications

• Current undergraduate or graduate student with a 3.0 GPA or higher required.
• Interns must be enrolled in a college/university or a Master’s/PhD program for the duration of the internship.
• Effective verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
• Excellent organizational skills to deal with multiple projects and priorities.
• Responsible for maintaining confidential information to the highest degree.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office suites and applicable BCBSM systems.
• Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.

Responsibilities

• Analyze literature, guidelines and claims data for the pipeline of drugs seeking FDA approval
• Complete projects/assignments that are outcomes research focused, which may include assisting in the review of articles being considered for publication, review of abstracts being considered for presentation at a national conference, developing a research poster and serving as co-author
• Identify opportunities to collaborate with prescribers and members to improve health outcomes related to antibiotics, COPD, asthma, diabetes, statin therapy, medication adherence and opioids
• Assist in developing clinical rationale for medication use policies and/or utilization management tools for a particular drug or class of drugs
• Serve as a clinical liaison and develop educational and marketing materials geared towards prescribers and patients on pharmacy hot topics
• Analyze pharmacy claims to identify processing issues or patterns of utilization
• Research drug information questions
