Job Description

We are looking for a Pharmacy Intern who will assist the pharmacist and the pharmacy team with ensuring a safe and excellent patient experience. The intern will learn pharmacy regulations, use pharmacy systems to process prescriptions, and support the pharmacy team in providing benefits to our customers.

Job Objectives
  • Learn to provide the best patient experience by assisting pharmacists and pharmacy team members in accordance with state and federal regulations.
  • Responsible for using pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
  • Model and deliver a distinctive and delightful customer experience.
  • Learn and champion pharmacy policy, procedures, and customer service best practices needed to perform as a future pharmacist.
Job Responsibilities / Tasks
Customer Experience
  • Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services; resolve customer issues and answer questions to ensure a positive experience.
  • Model and share customer‑service best practices with all team members to deliver a distinctive and delightful customer experience, including interpersonal habits and Walgreens service traits.
  • Develop strong relationships with customers.
Operations
  • Learn from store and pharmacy team members, field leadership, and customers/patients.
  • Under the supervision of the pharmacist, assist in the practice of pharmacy in accordance with state, federal, and company policy; review and comply with the Walgreen Co. Pharmacy Code of Conduct.
  • Perform duties as assigned and supervised by the pharmacist following Walgreens SOPs for entering, third‑party processing, filling, and dispensing prescriptions.
  • Assist pharmacists and other healthcare providers in delivering patient care and services that are within the state scope of practice for pharmacy interns (e.g., patient counseling such as blood pressure, medication therapy management).
  • Immediately report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty; adhere to company policies and the Quality Improvement Program.
  • Strictly adhere to the Walgreen Co. policy regarding Good Faith Dispensing.
  • Register all related sales on the assigned cash register, collect and handle cash as required, and guide customers to the OTC aisle when possible.
  • Handle telephone calls that do not require personal attention of the pharmacist, including physician calls.
  • Support the Pharmacy Department’s inventory management activities such as ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing shipments of pharmaceuticals; maintain knowledge of asset‑protection techniques and file claims for any discrepancies.
  • Assist with exterior and interior maintenance to keep the Pharmacy Department stocked, clean, neat, and orderly.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures and maintain respectful relationships with co‑workers.
  • Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned.
Training and Personal Development
  • Complete required training.
  • Maintain knowledge and skill in healthcare and pharmacy, including latest news and developments.
Qualifications
  • Must be enrolled in a school of Pharmacy program.
  • Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English (unless in Puerto Rico).
  • Requires willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.

Salary
