Job summary

NYU Langone Health is seeking a Pharmacy intern to assist licensed pharmacists under direct supervision by filling medication cassettes, operating automated dispensing machines, and compounding sterile and non-sterile products.

The intern will participate in quality assurance/performance improvement projects and patient-specific data collection, while performing general organization of the pharmacy and related duties in a fast-paced hospital setting.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent is required.
• Excellent communication skills are required for effective collaboration with the team and patients.
• Enrollment in or graduation from ACPE-accredited College of Pharmacy or equivalent pharmacy intern permit is required.

Responsibilities

• Fills medication cassettes and operates automated dispensing machines.
• Assists in compounding sterile and non-sterile products.
• Performs shelf checks and maintains organization of the pharmacy.
• Supports quality assurance and performance improvement projects.
• Collects patient-specific data for monitoring and reporting.
• Answers telephone courteously and promptly.
• Assists with nursing station reviews and QA/PI tasks.
• Assists with security and medication procurement.
• Demonstrates proficiency with hospital information system.
• Demonstrates aseptic technique in IV room procedures and compounding.

Position Summary

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Pharmacy intern. In this role, the successful candidate Position Summary: Responsible for acting as an assistant to a Licensed Pharmacist under direct supervision by filling medication cassettes, automated dispensing machines, compounding sterile and non-sterile products, doing shelf checks and performing general organization of the pharmacy. In addition, the intern may be called upon to assist in quality assurance/performance improvement projects and patient specific data collection.

Job Responsibilities

• Demonstrates proficiency with unit dose drug distribution
• Performs other duties as assigned
• Demonstrates knowledge of state and federal laws related to the handling of controlled substances
• Completes annual competency assessments
• Answer telephone with courtesy and promptness
• Demonstrates proficiency with the automated dispensing machines
• Demonstrates proficiency in patient specific data collection and review of medical records
• Assists pharmacists with nursing station reviews, QA/PI projects when needed
• Assist with security
• Demonstrates proficiency with medication procurement, stocking and deliveries
• Demonstrates proficiency with hospital information system
• Demonstrates proficiency in extemporaneous compounding on non-sterile products including capsule, ointments, oral/topical solutions and other kits
• Demonstrates proficiency in Aseptic technique IV room procedures and USP standard
• Demonstrates proficiency when repacking needed doses

Minimum Qualifications

To qualify you must have a Minimum Qualifications: High School diploma or the equivalent. Excellent communication skills. Enrollment or graduate of ACPE accredited college of Pharmacy or equivalent pharmacy intern permit..
