Job summary

Arkansas Children’s Hospital seeks an experienced pharmacy leader to oversee daily operations in the acute care pharmacy setting. The role coordinates evidence-based pharmaceutical care, formulary activity, and strategic goals in collaboration with the Pharmacy leadership team.

You will manage staff, lead educational initiatives for students and residents, and participate in ongoing quality improvement activities within a Magnet-recognized hospital.

Qualifications

• Doctorate of Pharmacy or Bachelor of Pharmacy (if obtained prior to 2000).
• 5 years of direct experience; demonstrated leadership readiness.
• Licensed Pharmacist - AR State Board of Pharmacy.

• Hires, fires, evaluates, coaches, counsels and trains Pharmacy staff.
• Prepares or supervises formulary addition/deletion requests; analyzes usage data for P&T Committee.
• Monitors and evaluates adverse drug reaction reports.

• Monitors medication shortages; develops conservation protocols.
• Assists in pharmacy education of students and residents; participates in QAPI.
• Investigates medication errors and follows up with the team.

Additional Information: Oversees daily operations in area of responsibility, including coordination of activities related to effective medication use and the provision of clinical pharmacy services. Works closely with the Director and Pharmacy leadership team to optimize the provision of pharmaceutical care and achievement of other department and hospital strategic goals and objectives.

Required Education: Doctorate of Pharmacy or Bachelor of Pharmacy (if obtained prior to 2000) Recommended Education: Required Work Experience: 5 years of direct experience; demonstrated leadership readiness through either prior leadership experience or, for internal candidates, successful completion of the ASPIRE program. • Hires, fires, evaluates, coaches, counsels and trains Pharmacy staff. Manages professional and technical staff in their day-to-day responsibilities.
• Prepares or supervises preparation of agendas, background and analysis of formulary addition/deletion requests, usage data, & other materials for P&T Stewardship Committee.
• Monitors and evaluates adverse drug reaction reports.
• Coordinates administrative responsibility for the AC Formulary and notification of AC medical, pharmacy, nursing and other professional staff of P&T Stewardship Committee actions. Works in conjunction with Pharmacy and Epic resources to implement changes required by P&T Stewardship Committee actions. Maintains online formulary in LexiComp.
• Works in conjunction with Pharmacy leadership team to monitor medication shortages, alert Critical Medication Shortages group, notify personnel, develop and implement protocols for conservation of supply, restriction of use and use of therapeutic alternatives.
• Evaluates and reports non-formulary drug usage.
• Assists pharmacists in resolving problems related to physician orders, drug therapy, preparation of medication, and P&T Stewardship Committee requirements.
• Participates in the training and education of Pharmacy students and Pharmacy residents. Active member of the Pharmacy Residency Advisory Committee.
• Assists in the ongoing development and reporting of Pharmacy department quality assurance and performance improvement (QAPI) activities.
• Investigates and evaluates reports of medication errors attributed to the Pharmacy department and completes online event reports as needed. Provides follow up with team members as needed to close the loop.
• Participates in Pharmacy department strategic planning to help develop a Pharmacy Strategic Plan with both short and long term goals.
• Performs duties assigned to meet routine or emergency situations. Substitutes as staff pharmacist as needed.
