Job summary

Medical Associates Plus (MAP) in Augusta, GA is seeking a PRN Pharmacist to provide on-demand clinical pharmacy services within a Federally Qualified Health Center. The role supports dispensing, counseling, regulatory compliance, and supervision of pharmacy technicians to ensure smooth operations during high-volume periods.

The ideal candidate holds a PharmD or BS in Pharmacy, is licensed in Georgia, and has at least 1 year of pharmacy experience, preferably with 340B and FQHC settings.

Qualifications

• PharmD or BS in Pharmacy from an accredited institution.
• Active, unrestricted Georgia pharmacist license.
• Minimum 1 year of experience in retail, hospital, or outpatient setting.
• Experience with 340B programs and/or FQHCs preferred.

Responsibilities

• Dispense prescription medications accurately and in compliance with standards.
• Review and verify provider orders for dosage and safety.
• Provide patient counseling on medication usage, side effects, interactions and adherence.
• Supervise pharmacy technicians in preparation, labeling, and distribution of medications.
• Ensure compliance with state and federal pharmacy laws including 340B, HIPAA, GFE, and SFS.
• Support GFE requirements by addressing cost transparency and educating patients on prescription costs as applicable.
• Monitor and reconcile inventory and controlled substances; document accordingly.
• Respond to inquiries from providers and patients regarding prescriptions and care plans.
• Participate in audits, quality assurance, and regulatory reporting as assigned.
• Assist in processing clinic-use medication requests and provider-initiated treatment plans.

Position Summary

The PRN Pharmacist provides as-needed professional pharmaceutical services to patients of Medical Associates Plus (MAP), a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC). Under the direction of the Pharmacy Manager, the PRN Pharmacist supports medication dispensing, regulatory compliance, patient counseling, and pharmacy technician oversight. This role ensures continuity of operations during high-volume periods, staff absences, or special projects, while upholding MAP’s mission to deliver affordable, equitable healthcare, including compliance with 340B, Good Faith Estimate (GFE), and Sliding Fee Scale (SFS) standards.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Dispense prescription medications accurately and efficiently in accordance with legal, clinical, and ethical standards.
• Review and verify provider orders, ensuring appropriate dosage, contraindications, and therapeutic value.
• Provide patient counseling regarding medication usage, potential side effects, interactions, and adherence strategies.
• Supervise pharmacy technicians in the preparation, labeling, and distribution of medications.
• Ensure full compliance with state and federal pharmacy laws, including 340B Drug Pricing Program requirements and HIPAA privacy rules.
• Support GFE requirements by addressing cost transparency and educating patients on prescription costs as applicable.
• Monitor and reconcile inventory, controlled substances, and expired medications, document according to regulatory standards.
• Respond to inquiries from healthcare providers and patients regarding prescriptions, drug interactions, and pharmaceutical care plans.
• Participate in internal audits, quality assurance activities, and regulatory reporting as assigned.
• Assist in processing clinic-use medication requests and provider-initiated treatment plans.
• Maintain patient confidentiality, professional conduct, and FQHC compliance in all areas of responsibility.
• Perform other duties within scope of licensure as assigned by the Pharmacy Manager or Practice Manager.

Qualifications

Knowledge, skills and abilities

• Proficiency with pharmacy information systems and EHR platforms.
• Knowledge of pharmaceutical regulations, billing practices, and compliance programs (e.g., 340B, GFE, SFS).
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented clinical environment.
• BLS certification required (or must obtain upon hire).

Education

• Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited institution (PharmD preferred).
• Active, unrestricted pharmacist license in the State of Georgia (required).

Experience

• Minimum of 1 year of experience in retail, hospital, or outpatient pharmacy setting preferred.
• Experience in 340B program environments and/or FQHCs strongly preferred.

Physical Demands

• Requires standing or walking for extended periods.
• Manual dexterity for handling medications and operating pharmacy equipment.
• Occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds.
• Visual and auditory acuity to ensure dispensing accuracy and effective communication.
• Work performed in a clinical pharmacy environment with direct patient and team interaction.
• May require occasional evening or weekend shifts based on operational needs.
• Exposure to various medications and high-volume or urgent care scenarios.
• Position is PRN; hours and shifts are not guaranteed and are scheduled based on organizational needs.
