Job summary

Children’s Minnesota is seeking a pharmacy professional to provide information to patients and families, coordinate drug therapy, and oversee technicians across inpatient and ambulatory settings.

You will support hospital-wide pediatric pharmacotherapy through rounds, education, and collaboration with care teams, with a focus on safety, efficacy, and cost containment.

Qualifications

  • Pharmacist is licensed in Minnesota or eligible to obtain license within three months.
  • ACPE-accredited PharmD degree required; pediatric clinical experience preferred.
  • BLS certification current or within 3 months of hire.
  • Pediatrics residency and/or BCPPS certification preferred.
  • Experience in inpatient or outpatient pediatric pharmacy settings preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide information to patients and families to promote optimal drug therapy.
  • Oversee pharmacy technicians and ensure safe, cost-effective drug use.
  • Participate in bedside rounds and pediatric pharmacotherapy services.

Education

PharmD from ACPE-accredited institution
Graduate from ACPE-accredited college with six-year curriculum or FPGEE/FPGEC pathway
Minnesota Pharmacy licensure (or within 3 months of hire)
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Pediatric Residency, preferred
Board Certified Pediatric Pharmacy Specialist (BCPPS), preferred
Minnesota Board of Pharmacy preceptor license, preferred

Department Overview

The pharmacy department at Children’s Minnesota is staffed by registered pharmacists and certified pharmacy technicians with specialized training in pediatric pharmacy. Our inpatient pharmacists perform daily rounds with providers and are essential partners in providing state-of-the-art pediatric comprehensive medication management services, pharmacy automation, IV production and compounding services. Children's pharmacists provide medication education, consultation and specialized drug information services, as well as participating in educational and outreach programs. We provide 24-hour inpatient operations services along with 16-hour decentral pharmacist coverage. Our inpatient decentral team includes trained subspecialists in neonatal, pediatric and cardiovascular critical care, including cardiac transplant, pediatric medicine, oncology, neuroscience, emergency medicine (including Level I trauma services) and research. Our pharmacists are also essential partners in the ambulatory setting, providing pediatric pharmacy services for home infusion, retail pharmacy, oncology clinic/infusion center and hemophilia treatment center, as well as medication therapy management (MTM) within our primary and specialty care clinics. We are committed to training the next generation of pediatric pharmacy professionals through mentoring of pharmacy students and post-doctoral training in our robust residency program, which includes post-graduate year one (PGY1) and two (PGY2) residencies in pediatrics and pharmacogenomics. Position Summary

Provides information to all patients, patient families and colleagues to promote optimal utilization of drugs. Coordinates the delivery of effective, safe, and cost-effective drug therapy to all patients. Conducts clinical and pharmacoeconomic research in support of the hospital's medical staffs and to improve drug therapy. Provides daily oversight of pharmacy technician activities. This role includes rotating day and evening shifts, every other weekend, and one week of overnight coverage followed by a week off.

  • Graduate from a college/school of Pharmacy accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) OR graduate from a foreign college of pharmacy that has at least a five-year curriculum and has passed the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Equivalency Examination (FPGEE) and become certified by the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Equivalency Commission (FPGEC), required.
  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from an ACPE-accredited institution, preferred.
  • Licensed to practice pharmacy in the State of Minnesota current or within three months of hire, required.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification current or within 3 months of hire, required.
  • PharmD degree or equal clinical experience preferred for decentral.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification preferred for decentral.
  • Institutional or outpatient experience preferred, depending on position.
  • Pediatric Residency, preferred.
  • Board Certified Pediatric Pharmacy Specialist (BCPPS), preferred.
  • Minnesota Board of Pharmacy preceptor license, preferred.
