Job summary

Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD is seeking a Pharmacist to ensure safe, effective medication use across patient ages. Responsibilities include interpreting orders, advising clinicians on drug therapies, monitoring regimens, educating patients, and supervising pharmacy technicians.

You will stay compliant with regulations, participate in quality improvement, and may engage in teaching, research, and continuing education as part of a multidisciplinary team dedicated to Moving Health

Qualifications

  • Must hold active Pharmacist license in practicing state.

Responsibilities

  • Interprets, processes, and monitors medication orders for contraindications, interactions, allergies, and appropriateness.
  • Provides medication information on usage, effects, and adverse effects; conducts inventory control during distribution.
  • Supervises Pharmacy Technicians in unit dosage, IV admixture, and prescription preparation/distribution.
  • Mentors students, interns, and technicians; participates in quality improvement and patient safety activities.
  • Monitors therapy and collaborates with clinicians to ensure continuity of care across the hospital.

Work where you matter.A Brief OverviewResponsible for ensuring the safe, effective, and economical use of medications for patients of all ages. This role involves preparing and dispensing prescriptions, advising healthcare professionals on drug therapies, monitoring patient medication regimens, and conducting patient education on drug use. The Pharmacist collaborates with medical staff to manage patient treatments, ensuring compliance with health system policies and regulatory requirements. Oversees the activities of pharmacy technical staff and interns. Additional responsibilities may include committee involvement, teaching, and participating in clinical research and continuing education to stay current with medical advancements.What you will doInterprets, processes, and monitors medication orders issued by providers for contraindications, interactions, allergies, and appropriateness.Provides medication information on the proper usage, desired effects and potential adverse effects and performs inventory control measures during medication distribution and administration providing patients optimal medication resources in a timely manner.Maintains a working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations, Code of Ethics, and policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all regulatory agencies for safe medication delivery.Supervises Pharmacy Technicians in unit dosage, intravenous admixture and prescription preparation/distribution.Mentors students, interns, technicians, and others with developing career plans or professional development.Participates in continuous quality improvement activities and promotes patient safety.Recommends changes within the department and facility to improve quality of care and services.Assists in drug use reviews, patient care audits, and detecting and reporting of adverse medication reactions to ensure our patients receive quality healthcare.Performs functions related to clinical activities such as kinetics, medication therapy monitoring, medication information, and educational programs.Monitors medication therapy including routine analysis of patient’s medication therapy, medical problems, laboratory data, and special procedures, as well as correlating these analyses with other clinicians responsible for the patient’s care to provide a continuum of care throughout the hospital system.Essential QualificationsThe individual must be able to work the hours specified.
