Job summary

MercyOne Medical Group is seeking a part-time pharmacist for the evening shift to deliver patient-focused pharmaceutical care across all ages. The role involves reviewing orders, ensuring appropriate dosing, and collaborating with the care team to optimize outcomes.

You will supervise technicians, maintain quality and safety, and support training of students and staff while upholding state and federal regulations and MercyOne policies.

Qualifications

• Pharmacy degree from ACPE accredited college.
• Licensed or eligible for Iowa licensure; licensure within 3 months of hire.
• BLS certification within 3 months of hire.
• Mandatory Reporter abuse training within 3 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Deliver patient-focused pharmaceutical care across all ages.
• Review physician orders for appropriate drug, dose, and form considering age/weight/comorbidities.
• Oversee preparation and timely delivery of medications to care areas.
• Collaborate with healthcare team to optimize pharmacotherapy outcomes.
• Supervise and mentor technicians, interns, and students on shift.
• Maintain quality and safety through QC checks and error reporting.
• Answer drug information questions for staff and patients.
• Train pharmacy staff and students as needed.
• Adhere to state/federal laws, policies, formularies and SOPs.
• Provide professional customer service to patients and providers.
• Perform other duties as directed by the pharmacy manager.

Description:

Delivers patient focused, outcome oriented pharmaceutical care to patients of all ages, including neonatal, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric. Promote a positive work environment and interpersonal relationships, while maintaining the highest level of professionalism and confidentiality.

Reviews and interprets physician orders to assure that the drug, dosage form, and dose is appropriate for the patient's age, weight, and comorbidities. Checks for drug incompatibilities and allergies, and takes appropriate action when necessary.

• Oversees and/or participates in assuring appropriate medications are prepared and delivered to care areas in a timely manner, and are stored both securely and in a manner appropriate for both stability and effective workflow.

• Works collaboratively with other healthcare team members to provide pharmacotherapy recommendations with intent to achieve optimal patient outcomes across the continuum of care.

• Supervises and mentors technicians, interns, and students working during their shift in order to maintain the accuracy and quality of pharmaceutical services.

• Maintains quality and safety in the department through completion of quality control checks, identifying and reporting out medication errors and near misses, identifying process improvements and ensures appropriate documentation.

• Provides accurate and timely responses to other healthcare professionals and patients regarding drug information questions and MercyOne medication use policies to assure safe and appropriate use of medications.

• Participates in the orientation, instruction and training of pharmacy students, interns, pharmacy technicians, residents, pharmacists and other health professionals.

• Knowledgeable and adheres to State and Federal laws, regulations, pharmacy policies, procedures and standard operating procedures, formulary and pertinent clinical practice guidelines.

• Provides professional, engaging customer service to all patients, and healthcare providers with whom they work.

• Performs other job functions as directed by the pharmacy manager/supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Pharmacy degree (BS or Pharm.D.) from an ACPE approved college of pharmacy.

• Licensed, or eligible for licensure, pharmacist in Iowa. Must be licensed within 3 months of hire. 2. BLS certification within 3 months of hire. 3. Other certification if requested by direct supervisors/managers. 4. Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training for child and dependent adult abuse within three (3) months of hire.
