Job summary

UPMC Hillman Cancer Center is seeking a Regular Full-Time Oncology Pharmacist to support the Palmer Medical Oncology Network Pharmacy locations in Norwin/Irwin and Greensburg, PA. The role involves a Monday through Friday daylight schedule with no holidays or weekends and will float between offices as needed.

Responsibilities

• Interpret and evaluate orders to dispense medications per regulations.
• Identify and report adverse drug reactions promptly.
• Sustain formulary and promote rational drug therapy.
• Review patient medication records for allergies and interactions.
• Supervise pharmacy technicians and staff.
• Adhere to regulatory standards and hospital policies.
• Communicate with physicians/nurses to clarify orders.
• Provide drug information and education to staff.
• Utilize computer systems for pharmaceutical care.
• Fill prescriptions per regulations; prepare IV admixtures aseptically.

UPMC Hillman Cancer Center is currently Regular Full-TimeOncology Pharmacist to support thePalmerMedical Oncology Network Pharmacy locations inNorwin/Irwin & Greensburg, PA. This position will work a Full-TimeMonday through Friday daylight schedule with no holidays or weekends and will float a between these offices and other nearby pharmacy network locations as needed.

The pharmacist will collaborate with other members of the oncology health care team and provide clinical recommendations regarding dose adjustments of medications and/or additional supportive care medications, when appropriate, based on the drug regimen, labs results and toxicities contributing to optimal patient outcomes. The Pharmacy professional will ensure the provision of cost-effective pharmacotherapy, provide experiential education for present and future healthcare practitioners, and support drug-related research.

Responsibilities:

• Interpret and evaluate physician orders and prescriptions to prepare, calculate, and dispense appropriate medication dosage forms for inpatient and outpatient treatment in accordance with the Pennsylvania Pharmacy Practice Act, Federal Drug Laws, and other regulatory organizations.
• Identify and report suspected adverse drug reactions accurately and in a timely manner.
• Sustain the formulary by minimizing non-formulary procurements, utilizing therapeutic interchange protocols, and promoting rational drug therapy selection.
• Review, maintain, and screen patient medication records and profiles for allergies, drug interactions and therapeutic duplications while entering orders and/or verifying medications.
• Organize daily operational duties and assist in the supervision of pharmacy technicians, pharmacy aides, student interns and other ancillary personnel involved in providing pharmaceutical care.
• Adhere to all regulatory requirements, professional standards of practice, and hospital quality management policies and procedures in providing pharmaceutical care.
• Communicate with physicians and nurses to ensure prompt clarification of orders that are unclear, illegible, or incomplete.
• Provide drug information and/or educational programs to healthcare professionals and pharmacy students.
• Utilize all available computer systems and technologies in the provision of pharmaceutical care.
• Fill prescription orders in accordance with State and Federal regulations, utilizing technological resources and equipment.
• Prepare and dispense intravenous admixture solutions, as required, using aseptic technique in an accepted sterile product preparation area.

Qualifications:

• Graduate of an ACPE accredited College of Pharmacy
• B.S in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree
• Required: Current licensure as a Pharmacist in practicing state
• No previous experience required; pharmacist experience preferred.
• Oncology experience preferred
