Virginia Commonwealth University Health is launching a Pharmacist Lead role to oversee drug-use safety, verification, and rational therapeutic decisions for diverse patient groups across ambulatory care settings.

Requires Virginia licensure within 90 days, or already licensed, with a PharmD preferred. Night/weekend shifts are required and patient counseling is a core duty in this leadership position.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor, screening and verification of all drug-related orders for proper dosage, route, dosage form, and administration schedule
  • Ensure expedited preparation and dispensing of all dosage forms by pharmacy personnel
  • Counsel patients regarding the safe and proper use of their medications
  • Resolve drug therapy problems, clarify and correct problematic drug orders, designate pharmacy technicians to perform special assignments

**Coming Soon to Chesterfield! Located at 10031 Nash Road, VCU Health Chesterfield Pavilion will be a four-story, approximately 100,000-square-foot ambulatory surgery center and medical office building, bringing comprehensive, patient-centered outpatient care closer to residents in one of Virginia’s largest counties. Scheduled to open in April 2027, the state-of-the-art facility will bring together surgical services, diagnostics, infusion therapy, pharmacy services, innovative care models, and more in a single, convenient location for Chesterfield residents.**

The Pharmacist Lead job ensures the overall integrity, safety, rationality, and effectiveness of the drug use control process for all patients in the assigned geographic or specialty area, including the following patient groups: Neonates, Pediatrics, Adolescents, Adults, and Geriatrics.

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire:

Current licensure with the Virginia State Board of Pharmacy required or obtained within the first 90 days of employment

Current licensure with the Virginia State Board of Pharmacy

Experience REQUIRED:

Experience PREFERRED:

Minimum of one (1) year of pharmacy practice experience in a similar setting. Previous experience with state of the art drug distribution and clinical service methods and drug information sources and retrieval and communication methods.

Education/training REQUIRED:

Bachelors of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited academic program

Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) from an accredited academic program

Independent action(s) required:

The monitoring, screening and verification of all drug-related orders for assurance of proper dosage, route, dosage form, and administration schedule and ensuring expedited preparation and dispensing of all dosage forms by pharmacy personnel. Resolve drug therapy problems, clarify and correct problematic drug orders, designate pharmacy technicians to perform special assignments, counsel patients regarding the safe and proper use of their medications, and resolve equipment and operational problems.

Compensation Range

$59.27 - $88.89 Actual salary offers will be based on several key factors to include relevant work experience, credentials, and qualifications.
